I'd say this video would have been impossible to follow along with and frustrating to try to watch a few months ago. But with a few other tutorials from others and lots (LOTS) of practice, I'd say I'm at the point of really appreciating this type of tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to post and explain. This was/is AWESOME!!!

High although i admire your videos and are really helpful i found this way of luminocity masks complicated. I saw another tutorial ( from another retoucher) that its explain the luminocity masks throught the color range and personally i found it much more easy to understand, and there is an option to choose the fuzziness too.

Hello Kaleigh! I absolutely love your videos. They are so helpful in learning new ways to make photos look great! I have one question. When you started on this photo I noticed the layers 6 and 7 were just blank layers. Are these layers just 2 new layers above the background copy and maybe skin retouching? Thanks! Keep up the GREAT work!
@KayleighJune5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Yes they were blank layers for extra skin retouching prior to colour grading. Sometimes I'll use a new blank layer for painting colour onto the skin tone to smooth it out a bit more. :)
@spencerselover4 жыл бұрын
Love the videos. Although quick question. Would using the layer blending options by alt double clicking a layer be a quicker way to select certain luminosity ranges? Not only that you can fine tune the selections a bit better. I don't know if this would be better or worse for any reason, this was the way I always did it myself.

Dear kayleigh, is this luminosity technique can be intetchangeble with Dodge and Burn process? It's really interesting technique. You can change the luminosity within different ranges, The photo looks like it was dodge and burn processed after playing with the masks. Can i use this technique for a global Dodge and burn? Anyways, thank you for such informative video!
@Maxmilion60043 жыл бұрын
Tell me why this tutorial on creating luminosity masks is better than the paid ones. smh Thanks Kayleigh. I noticed when you do the luminosity masks and go to midtones highlights and shadows you still use the slider in color balance for midtones. Why is that? wouldn't you want to go highlights and shadows to match what you are doing with the luminosity masks? asking for a friend

Hello June , Thank you for your helpfull turtorials! Question about this one above: How do you save the image? If I use luminosity masks by channels .I get a very weird thumbnail in my Window Explorer. It looks a lke a sort of negative Do you know what causes this? Never had this before. And I don't know if the image stays usefull. In one piece... I would like to safe it as a Tiff Thanks
@quynhle61714 жыл бұрын
your alpha channels are causing that. You can either delete all those channels if you no longer need them. OR create a blank alpha channel above all those channels to hide them in your preview.

Hello, do you have an action preset for this in photoshop?
@dawgyv725 жыл бұрын
I can see some uses for this because of the selections, but in terms of editing, can't you just use split toning for color correction? And for the luminosity, cant you just do curves/levels and adjust the blending options to just apply to the brightest/darkest areas? Of course, it's about the result and having your process saved as an action removes any issue with this taking "too long". Cool video regardless from a fellow photographer-retoucher!

When I had the light and dark areas, I followed the instructions to select the brightest and darkest areas. I did this: Ctrl + click the highlight area then click Ctrl + Alt but the message appears: Warning: No pixels are more than 50% selected. instructions to help me
@thegreatbigco5 жыл бұрын
Hi there - you can only see selections that have at least 50% opacity or more - there is still a selection but will not be visible on screen with the marching ants. Thus the areas are selected but they are too transparent (not strong enough) to show the selection. You will notice if you click OK; these areas will be there but just very faint / light and not very visible. You can increase their intensity by going to the top of the photoshop menu and brighten them with a simple levels or curves adjustment - do not try to use an adjustment layer here, as they will not work on the channel mask - you have to select it from the top menu (hope this all makes sense to you and happy retouching! ;) )

hi Kayleigh,only recently found your channel here on yt.really enjoying your tutorials,and the explanations of what you are doing,and why.i use lumenzia from greg benz to create my luminosity masks in ps.he has a free luminosity mask panel for anyone who signs up for his newsletter.very good it is too.i went on to purchase the full masking panel from his site.maybe some of your own viewers could benefit from using this free panel,instead of making the luminosity masks for each image?please don't think I am undermining your methods in any way,just trying to be helpful as luminosity masking can be a bit confusing to begin with.
