This is my experience apple to windows. I needed a change and the Microsoft Surface Book 3 is the answer.
I know there are a lot of Apple users who swear by their Macbook pro but if you're having problems like me hopefully this will point you in a new direction. Thanks for watching! What are you editing with? Are you team Apple or team Windows?

i love your video! i have a macbook pro from 2013 and all new macs suck me! terrible keyboard, unnecessarily huge trackpad and i hate force feedback, adapters, and no nvidia gpu. I would like to make this jump to windows. I'm a filmmaker and I work a lot with premiere pro / after effect. Can you recommend it to me? or rather something more powerful? do you have any comparison on premiere also with the macbook 16? Thanks so much!

Did the same change like you. I used apple for 14 years but as an illustrator and photographer the apple ecosystem is SO annoying that I couldn't stand it anymore. And in the end what else do you need than running your full speced pro software with a touchscreen, a browser and an e-mail Client on a creative machine.

Livio Di Miceli thanks for watching and commenting. Hmm, I’m not entirely sure that I understand. As you can see, I sold my MacBook Pro 16 and I don’t anticipate on bringing that back in to my life so I don’t have any render tests. I suppose I could always use someone else’s to compare my current set up to the 16” but I’d likely be disappointed. I’ve heard very high praise of the Razor Blade Studio maybe take a look at that. It’s nice to see that I’m not alone here. Couldn’t agree more when it comes to the trackpad, keyboard and adapters.

Felix Sorau completely agree. I’m genuinely surprised that Apple has stuck to their guns with the latest MacBook Pros for as long as they have. I’ve been patient enough.

I had the same concerns as you when I was switching earlier this year to surface book 2 (and now 3) but honestly I have not missed my MacBook Pro ... it’s a shame they can’t come up with touchscreen MacBook Pro... till they do I’m sticking with the best thing available that fits-my-wants and that MSB3

I use a Surface book 3 for work (maxed out version) - I’m not a fan, it’s loud, heavy and doesn’t perform particularly well for me

Kyle Romanek Give it some time. I did this with a Surface Book 2. Loved it. When it worked. Which became a rare occurrence. Finally have it stable again. Don’t know for how long. Windows updates consistently gave me issues such as bsod every five minutes after the 1803 update. Later Microsoft acknowledged ooops this release isn’t good on SB2. Update to fix the issue that many had took a month. A month of lost work for me. Luckily i still had my MacBooks. Next update caused dgpu disappearances. It just would randomly disappear and behave like one wasn’t installed. Then the “batteries not installed” saga. Making it so it would only run plugged in. Then the throttling to 400mhz for no reason. These were all software issues with windows. All required Microsoft updates to fix the issues the major updates caused. You can google them. These issues were known. It’s not just my setup which I run clean (adobe and office basically). The firmware update that was required to fix the throttling and battery and dgpu issues took near 3 months to release. And my system refused to roll back. I got tired of the headache of working on it. It’s a beautiful machine if I could just trust it.

Windows 10 has become so intuitive and as I said earlier it’s pretty lean and fast. My 11 year old daughter prefers windows 10 to my wife’s Mac , I am not joking ! She just flies through it it’s fun to watch for me.

erfan ahmad Apple Pencil does not have an eraser 😅 the pencil works great great great tho. I have never used a surface pen, but the videos I’ve seen since years and years of it show that it is inferior to Apple Pencil and that seems to be a limit of Microsoft’s pen tech that sadly can’t be fixed. I used to be so obsessed with surface devices, maybe one day in the future I’ll get one.

I am a Mac user from way back, but I love my Surface Book 2. It is still running strong and I love the versatility of the device. Something you might not know is that Adobe products are optimized for Windows.

The surface book 2 had an issue on some models where the cutout below the trackpad stuck out a bit too much and when pressure was applied to the top of the screen it would crack but I think they have fixed that issue

The facial expressions are priceless and I enjoyed this video. I am an apple fanboy and I COMPLETELY understand your switch. Steve Jobs in his Keynotes, bragged about adding in the newest ports, but never eliminated everything and just kept one; additionally he admitted apple mistakes and wanted to make things right; like the original iMac mouse, MobileMe and more. In 2016 Apple removed all essential and still wide spread working ports from MacBook and screwed up the keyboard, never admitted their mistake and they wont, because they’re just so proud now, instead of going back to what their customers want. Anyway, this video was amazing. That face you made when you detached the screen, that just killed me.

Kyle. I was 29 years Apple only. Worked for free in their first West Coast Apple store to keep Apple alive. When Steve Jobs died, regrettably, so did Apple. My iPhone 6 sucked and I'm not the only one who felt that way. After 3 years with an iMac Tim Cook's replacement... was the same exact item with a minor CPU upgrade and a major price upgrade. I switched to OnePlus 3 (at the time) and Android has been such a win I'll never go back. You could hand me an 11 Pro and I wouldn't even try it. Honest. I had Amoled before Apple offered it. In screen finger print reader and Apple still hasn't offered it. Android was a perfect fit. Windows 10? I switched when it was just released... and it reminded me of OS X's early days. Something new in the air. Unfortunately it's refining period is taking way too long but it's been very stable. So have my various Asus products. And like Android everything costs 50% less. So instead of choosing between an iMac or MacBook -- I have a desktop, a laptop, and Micro PC by the TV. All for the price of one iMac. Android and Windows allows you to get WHAT you want WHEN you want it for a reasonable price. No waiting for years hoping and praying Apple might lower a price or introduce a feature. Welcome aboard.

Same with me had my clunky MBP from 2011! Got tired of the overheating however I didn't go for the new mac models. Being a video editor it just was not for me due to the lack of ports. I went for the Surface Pro 7 i5 256 SSD! Got Premiere Pro CC 2020. It ran perfectly. Didn't pay full price bc it was on sale!

Gabriel Lesaca this is all great. I couldn’t agree more. I said this in another comment but it’s true that KZbin is it’s own unique creative expression. This is something I’m just now realizing. I’ve been making documentary films from some time and story is everything. In the tech space you almost never see story but theres not always one to tell. I’m just happy to see people were entertained and informed.

Gabriel Lesaca to your point about editing with the pen. I was very excited about this. I would say that I find myself using the pen a lot. It’s very functional in almost any creative app and when it comes to video editing it’s very refreshing to use premiere in this way. I find myself editing in a standard laptop mode and getting frustrated that I’m not touching the screen so I flip it around and edit with the pen. It will continue to take some getting used to for instance losing hot keys that we use so often undo and copy and paste. Not you just do it from the menu selection. I like it.

Hey great review! Question - how did you find the 15in fared when trying to read articles / browse the web / etc? Did it feel too big for that use case? Im not looking to do heavy graphics work, apart from podcasting. Mainly intrigued by the fact that I can get office productivity work done and then don't need a separate device to do my web browsing / reading from the couch. Debating btw the 13.5 or 15in versions. What do you think?

I'm in the same boat you were in. My 2013 MacBook has been worked hard and the battery is starting to tire out. It's been through a lot with me and is still in pretty great condition but I gotta think about the future and I desperately NEED A CHANGE. I've already switched my iPhone to an android phone which I love! "Can't stick around with something because the world says it's great," THIS IS SPOT ON! I wish more people felt this way. I'm really tired of people's intense consumerism and need to stick to brand loyalty, where's the adventure in that?

Amazing to share your experience this way! It was awesome to view it. Big compliments! For 10 years i was hardcore "team Apple" and after the launch of the iPhone 11/Pro i was done with it....expensive and hardly no innovation. So i moved to Android/Samsung and soon i switched from my macbook to a Surface Laptop. Step by step you noticed that you're trapped i the (nice and good working) Apple eco system.

Had a Surface Book 2 and wasn't happy at all. Had to send it in twice because of battery issues with the tablet part. Every major Windows update brought problems, problems you didn't have with third party computers that run Windows. That really shouldn't happen. Switched to the 16-inch Macbook and I am finally happy. But I am glad you're happy with the Surface Book 3!

Oh man, I felt this in my soul. Apple user my entire life. The first computer I ever used was my dad’s Apple 2. I had a very brief love/hate affair with a Window’s netbook, when I needed a very small computer at the MacBook Air hadn’t been invented yet, but other than that, I’ve been an Apple person. And I still am, sorta. I still use an iPhone. I still have an cellular iPad mini for when I’m on the go but think there might be down time (chronic illness - in the hospital a lot). I still love my iMac for power intensive tasks (all though that might be over with the transition to Apple silicon once this one dies). But when my 2013 MacBook Air started to feel slow in 2018, I was mortified to find what Apple was offering was awful. I’ve been a surface pro user since for my laptop needs. The biggest issue was learning how to access PDFs not in a web browser, and kind of missing having iMessage on my desktop. The pdf issue was solved quickly and, while I still miss iMessage, I do find I’m less distracted now and I always have my iPhone with me anyways. I love Apple, but gosh, their laptops just suck now. They are better with the newer keyboard, but dongle life is not enjoyable, the Touch Bar is infuriating and they just aren’t exciting anymore. Once I got the surface, I realised how ridiculous it was that I was carrying around a MacBook, several dongles, an iPad Pro + pencil and keyboard folio, an iPad mini, and an iPhone just to make my work flow useable. Now, I have my surface, it’s keyboard, the pen and my iPhone. Sometimes also my iPad mini, but that’s mainly so I can watch movies while I work. My bag is much lighter

Disclosure : I work for Microsoft, but not with Surface. This is a fantastic video. Not heavy on the specs, just the actual experience of using the product. I think SB3 would work extremely well for a lot of people currently "bound" to the MacBook Pro. I've been a MacBook Pro user myself for years, but find I don't miss any of it using a Surface product with Windows 10. Think a lot of it comes down to habit at this point. And Apple has done very well capitalizing on that.

I was very very massed up with my iPad and MacBook combination that Apple claimed “Continuity” because you have to bring two devices to run it somewhere like meadow or coffee shop or whatever to inspiring some idea. Obviously,When you use these products you need more space than using a Computer or tablet and imagine what happened if you did like that. This video *COMPLETELY* shows my mind. I bought my iPad for do something just like your work but it doesn’t what I expected. In actual, LumaFusion is an iPad app which you can edit timeline like FinalCutPro but that doesn’t have enhanced color grading and any motion effect. Then I got Mac portable computer(2017 15inch Corei7)for recover my disgusting feeling of iPad Pro but it still suck.When I editing photo, that went to slow with fan noise. And I lost 3000$... The Surface Book 3 is finally the thing what I expected 15 inch pen support high resolution display, brilliant more ports than Mac, good powerful graphics card with capable to silent activate, Wow! But it has a issue like the windows system doesn’t work but you can fix it Sorry about my English because my heart pops up. I’m really exited your video, thanks to upload!
