A composite material is two or more different materials put together to make a product with improved properties. Reinforced concrete has a reinforcement of steel rods added making the matrix of concrete more resistant to tension. A composite glass ceramic has a reinforcement of ceramics and a matrix of glass. Fibreglass has a reinforcement of thin threads of glass fibres and a matrix of polymer resin. Plywood has a reinforcement of thin sheets of wood at right angles to each other and a matrix of glue. MDF has a reinforcement of woodchips, shavings and/or sawdust and a matrix of polymer resin.
