Kazakhstan protests: Violence erupts as Russian paratroopers brought in to quell uprising

Fresh violence erupted in Kazakhstan's main city on Thursday after Russia rushed in paratroopers overnight to put down a countrywide uprising in one of Moscow's closest former Soviet allies.
Police in the main city Almaty said they had killed dozens of rioters overnight. The authorities said at least 18 members of the security forces had died, including two found decapitated. More than 2,000 people had been arrested.
On Wednesday, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev accepted the Kazakhstan government's resignation after a fuel price increase in the oil-producing Central Asian country triggered protests in which nearly 100 police were injured.
The protests began after the government lifted price controls on liquefied petroleum gas at the start of the year.

My Kazakh friends living in Kazakhstan already told me that on the protesters side, there was an unnecessary amount of aggression from certain groups of people who incited burning, decapitating of officers, etc. They ask for unnecessary use of violence to stop from both sides, they do not stand by the actions of those people who decapitated first responders. Kazakh people must fight only for Kazakh people, not let any outside power influence their wills. Fight for improvement, not return to barbarism. Those who are violent deserve an equal response of force. Those who are peaceful must deserve respect and real coverage of media, not twisting any words.

Tengizchevroil is a joint venture between Chevron (50% share in the consortium), ExxonMobil (25% share), KazMunayGas (20% share) and LukArco (5% share).
