I have never seen anything as perfect as this AMV for this anime. This is the video I go to rewatch again and again and again because of how PERFECT it is. Kazama and Saito are two of my all time favorites with Okita and Hijikata coming after. But Kazama gets my heart hands down.you are AMAZING

In order (as someone who recently finished watching them): 1) Hakkuouki Reimeroku (prequel of Hakkuouki 1) 2)Hakkuouki Shinsengumi Kitan (aka Hakkuouki 1) 3)Hakkuouki Sekkaroku (OVA set between Hakkuouki 1 episodes 7 and 9 I believe) 4)Hakkuouki Hekkaroku (aka Hakkuouki 2) Only after all those then do the movies. Each one is a recap of Hakkuouki 1 and 2 respectively. Thai is Movie 1 is a summary/different approach to season 1 and Movie 2 for season 2. Hope I helped !

I say just watch the movies honestly as someone who tried to start by wtching the seasons with chizuru and not the ones with the guy I didn't know that was even a show till later but I stopped watching during season2 cuz it was kinda slow. since the movies are the same thing as the episodes pretty much just with a better ending in my opinion and doesn't drag on id recc starting there.

I'll disagree with maddie actually. The seasons are not ''the same thing as the episodes pretty much'' they are more well developed than the movies. The movies may offer a few snippets that you don't know of if you've watched the two seasons but you really should watch the seasons first. The order I suggested is mostly the series. The movies are an afterthought. They simply offer a different perspective slightly. Just watch Hakkuouki Shinsengumi Kitan and Hakkuouki Hekkaroku if you are not in the mood for the OVA and the prequel. You will gain way more experience wise than the movies. Not to mention they are way better translated than the movies. You won't be able to fully understand the characters and the plot if you go for the two movies in my personal opinion. An hour and a half for each movie isn't nearly enough to cover the shows so it's rushed. Not to say it's not good of course. Then again,I like in depth development. In the end, your choice
