This anime took a refreshing angle on the sports genre: the characters aren't hyped up high schoolers, they're tired and relatable uni students who have troubles of their own (finances, finding a job, struggling with their fitness etc.) and none of them (except Haiji) have any desire to run in the Hakone Ekiden; they all had to find their own motivation and reasons to run, even if it was just for one race. It was so down to earth and a perfect representation of small victories and overcoming personal hardships in mundane life. It's so refreshing to see a sports series without extremely hyped up visuals, special techniques and the typical high school set up with a first year prodigy duo who want to make it to nationals and be the best in Japan (please don't misunderstand, that setup works perfectly in shows like KuroBasu and Haikyuu and I'm a diehard fan of both) - it was a perfect, realistic and down to earth story. I loved every second of it. 15/10 would recommend.

I used to hate running, I always sucked at it and never been able to run much, because I was fat. After 5 years I'm here, having lost 40kg and gained 20kg of muscle back, 190cm at 85kg and I still can't fuckin run. I practice a mix of Calisthenics, Powerlifting, Olympic Weightlifting and Bodybuilding, and am overall pretty strong, flexible and have a good-looking body, and I still get out of breath like the fat kid I once was. This anime changed my mind, I took a liking to long distance running, and I started to run. I'm sorry this story doesn't have any plot twists, I still suck at running.

Like with all due respect here because for all I know you could be truthful, but as someone who runs with people that train daily and have done so for years, they don't do 15k in 45, the difference between the 2 times you listed in terms of pacing is huge, they made it look easy in the anime but in reality I don't see someone start running and go that fast. It takes year of hard training to get near that level. As I say you could be truthful, hence why I'm asking how long you've run for and if you can prove you've run 15k in 45 minutes

Even before watching this anime I was already running but I had stopped a few months ago and after watching this anime I felt the urge to run again. Exactly three weeks ago I joined the team from my city and since then I haven't stopped and exactly today the professional runner said to me “you are showing yourself to be an athlete" I confess that I don't know what it means but something tells me that I should continue running and I thank this anime for lighting my spark again in a sport that I once abandoned. The way the piano melody grows from Running Is--->Onward to Hakone--> Black Bullet is just so breathtaking. I personally like the anime a lot. I mean I don't think the anime is about running and being the fastest.. It's more like how you make through difficult obstacles in daily life. I guess my point of view might be different, but I feel like the anime is more about how to fit into society and find own place from there. There's still 12 episodes left to air so I'm excited to see what's going to happen next. But yeah it's not your typical intense sport anime, I feel like it's more slice of life anime so I can't really recommend it to people that doesn't like that genre.

@@MelodicStar actually this is my mistake completely, i was listening to this and really enjoyed it, but when i saw it was black bullet i didn't realise that it was referring to the current airing black bullet, instead having black bullet from 2014 in mind, which i still stand by my opinion on. But i haven't had chance to watch many of the more recent releases, and will have to give this a watch. Again this was an honest mistake by a very exhausted student 😅 I feel rather stupid now, sorry about that.
