Japan just keeps on producing karateka that perform beautiful & powerful karate kata. It's like they have a factory.

Can someone please explain to me why is he (and other top-tier kata performers) stomping? I was taught that stomping is a bad thing, also learned the same thing from many other sources and masters. Yet, all of the best karatekas make pretty loud sounds while transitioning from stances... Thanks!

I share the same opinion I just got my black belt but I wasn't exactly clear on my basics he wanted me not to stomp and barely breath out (quieter than this guy) but I made a little too much of a sound and it caused me to mess up a little because I was thinking should I just allow myself to stomp a little and breath out so I'm still showing the power which I can do from the legs up, however to do it with barely any sound at all my power decreases by quite a bit, luckily I passed but I saw this video before my grade and thought hold on, he's stamping and breathing out enough to get some pretty good power and not being penalised for it, if this sort of thing is allowed in competitions why isn't it a good thing to do in gradings, I know for second dan they won't allow any stomping at all apparently so I'm a little confused, maybe they don't get us to stomp at all so we don't get into a habbit of over stomping (more than this guy for example) for if we ever go to compete.

@@bradg9256First of all, sorry for my english, I'm learning 😅. You don't stomp in grading because it is traditional karate, also it is not necessary to do it as you have to show what you've learned, grading is not to compete. Traditional karate and competitive karate are quite different. Also, the guy in the video is Moto Kazumasa, as many other karatekas from high competition, they flow like a river and are very strong, they can make such a luxuries because they reached the level to do it. One thing thing that someone told me when I was in the way to be part of the national team for my country is "You are not Luca Valdesi, Moto Kazumasa or Antonio Diaz, you are you and you have to adapt the kata and make it yours, you have to be different without losing the essentials from the kata" Take references from other people, watch videos and compare.

I think it all depends how the stomp is done. If you stomp on purpose or just did because you lift the leg too much by mistake, it is bad (expect in some katas that need the stomp, obviously), but if you just make a normal transition without lifting or leg, even even so it makes that stomo sound, it isn't your fault, it just happens, so I think the judges can't take it as a mistake. I myself sometimes rhink about that, my friends keep making jokes because of how loud is my kata stomping, even though I try my best to make a good transition and I don't make it on purpouse lmao. I don't know if I could explain you exactly or if it was right, I just said what I think about it. I hope I could help you, by the way, sorry the bad english.

A lot of mistakes: the fist in gedan-barai is too high under the knee - he performs chudan-barai; a lost balance in kiba-dachi; too long delays between movements; after gedan-barai it should be giaku-age-zuki and not just giaku-zuki (which is just one in whole kata).
@gusw90272 жыл бұрын
i dont have a opinion since im green belt and im trying to learn empi, but about that delays, bruh the katas are made to delay in some parts, and theres people that just make it faster idk why. Making it slowly makes it show the movements more clearly.
@mindbender64172 жыл бұрын
@@gusw9027 For your information - any kata must be performed in the real fight tempo. If you do in such a way then you are performing kata correctly. And, the public should see the real fight too while you are performing it.
@elythegreat2 жыл бұрын
gedan-barai is just ok. His height is not that tall. a defensive gedan-barai at that height is practical.. lol. i agree with too long delays between movements, but not all movements though. One of the mistakes that I see , he is pivoting using the ball of his foot instead of his heel , a very common mistake which only few can notice

@@mindbender6417 jesus, no bro, each kata has his own tempo, its not based in a real fight, kata is a mix of kihons of each belt, it CAN be used to simulate a fight, bunkai, but ITS NOT a real fight
