I feel like the downstairs area was perhaps intended to be more of a game room situation/hang out situation. I would turn that area into a huge playroom for the kids and keep the upstairs as the formal living area.

I was just about to suggest this as well. Keep downstairs for the kids. Play area in the living area and kitchen for them. Keep upstairs the main area and that way when the kids are at Oscar’s, you don’t have to really go downstairs for anything.

House is gorgeous! I think the bedroom with the bathroom should be alayahs room she’s the oldest girl and will utilize that bathroom most. Downstairs kitchen for extra food/kitchen storage. The whole downstairs is giving “kids house” like their own little special space

Personally I would keep the main living room upstairs with the view and the beautiful kitchen and then downstairs have some cozy sofas but make that bit room a playing space - you can use the kitchen a space for them to bake and do craft and the rest of the room can have a painting station, jungle gym etc etc. keeps it all downstairs so that you have a nice adult space upstairs in the evenings

You could use that extra laundry room as a place for the litter boxes but make it cute and hide it in a bench or something. And the under the stairs you could make into a reading nook with twinkle lights and comfy pillows

That’s a cool house I would dedicate the entire downstairs to the kids and the upstairs for adults like just a small sitting area . And use the down stairs kitchen for the snacks and more kids stuff and dinners upstairs

In addition to snacks and drinks, the second kitchen could be where the kids do arts and crafts. that way you dont have to worry about cleaning it up immediately so you can cook dinner. You can leave paint brushes to soak in the sink, let their art dry on the island, etc.

That is so smart!!! There are already cabinets and drawers for all of the art/school supplies!! And they have a space for all of their own snacks and drinks. That'd make a good homework space too

Ok so I know you said the downstairs to be the main living room, but with four kids and you wanting a play space, what about converting the whole downstairs to be “kid central” in the kitchen space all the snacks and drinks and craft supplies.. the living space can be a huge play room with play couches and mats for all the kids… the upstairs is a open concept so I can see where it seems smaller but honestly I think the space could still be a perfect oasis! Love the new house! Can’t wait to see you decorate!

For the kitchen downstairs it would be cool to have indoor plants and herbs and to make it like a coffee/wine bar for your guests plus snacks for the kids when their friends come over. For the little closet you can make it a space for toys and stuffies and for the fire safe it would be cool to put gymnast mats because it looks like a great spot for tumbling 🫶

The tiny under the stairs closet that’s slanted could be a dress up room! Add hooks and stuff for costumes and dresses :)

Make sure you turn the oven off at the wall downstairs and turn the gas off, I wouldn't feel comfortable having my children downstairs with access to it.

I would keep the downstairs a “kid area” … set up a play room downstairs in that big room & use the kitchen for the kids (snacks, drinks, lunches, etc) … you can even put a smaller couch & tv downstairs to have a sitting area in the playroom

The second kitchen you can use it like a kids kitchen, you know to help them get more independent. Obviously with the right precautions!!

I'd keep all the breakfast and snacks stuff for the extra kitchen space. That would be handy in the mornings as the kids rooms are down there, along with the bathroom for getting ready (and their clothes to get dressed). There'd be a lot less going up and down stairs, especially for the little ones, and everything would be in one accessible zone. Upstairs seems to have plenty of space for the main living area and having a smaller sofa downstairs would allow for more room for playing. The toys would also be more contained and could leave more space in the bedrooms from less toys in them. You'd be able to have friends round upstairs in a more adult zone and as a plus it would be further from sleeping children needing quiet.

The house is beautiful, Kyra! I would recommend using the downstairs kitchen as your snacks and drinks kitchen. If the living room down there will be your main living space that would save you and the kids from running up to the main kitchen constantly. I'm excited to see you decorate! =)

That “cement “ room Is usually “cold storage “ for like food storage. But I would just use it as basic storage, totes, Christmas tree, holiday decor, etc.

In our basement kitchen, we have all beverages/alcohol, and glasses for that stuff. As well as a popcorn machine, and other snacks. Great for Costco hauls as well (cases of water, soda) etc! And in the fridge we keep it fully stocked of drinks (alcoholic and nonalcoholic)

downstairs should be all kids things, like kids snacks drinks all their toys and honestly the living room with a smaller couch and tv and all their toys down there and when it’s not your weekend you have your own space upstairs with your own living area kitchen and all that! this house is super beautiful tho, congratulations can’t wait to see how it all comes together 😌

At the fire room you can buy wallpapers for all the walls there and a little carpet and then you can use it as a playroom🥰

personally I would do the upstairs as a normal kitchen, living room, dining room. the have down stairs be a smaller living room/ organized playroom, and the kitchen being half bar half kids snacks, extra cups, juice and or milk, arts and crafts so you wouldn’t have to go up and down during bath and bedtime. then the little room in the bedroom with the bathroom downstairs is use as a tiny reading room for the kids or even a craft room where they can have a quiet space!! anyway you design it will be beautiful I love the place! it’s definitely big and lots of organization options!!! 🧡

Maybe have down stairs playroom and for kids to settle in downstairs with tv and play time before bed and upstairs main with some toys. It's what ever you're comfortable with hon 😊

The house is beautiful!!! It's gonna be so much to organ in there!!! The little crooked room I'd make a tiny games room. I seen one in a Cain like that. They hung up a TV and then had a console and some soft seats on the floor. Super cute kid area.

The little closet that u said the doll houses alone wouldn’t fit in would be cool to turn into a little reading nook area for the girls :) put a couple little bean bags or just throw a bunch of cute pillows in there and put up a book shelf with their favorite books etc

I feel like I would make the down stairs living area a play room. It's nice because it's down stairs and not in sight (well like right when you walk in) I feel like as a mom that makes more sense vs two living rooms

Love the house! You should do a series of crazy, moving, deciding everything and everything else! Would love to see it all! I know moving in it self is crazy and stressful, but your a pro, so keep your camera with you in everything you do! That would be so fun! Can’t wait for the next one🤍🤩

Best wishes and good luck with the house. You could put all the toys on the back wall down stairs, get some cubes and bins to hold the toys. You would still have room for a rug, sofa and tv.

I don't really like the way people always believe the oldest should get more. Like me and my brother had to share the smallest bedroom growing up while my older sisters got the bigger bedrooms. How does it make sense theres two of us so we should get one of the bigger rooms. Makes so much more sense.

I would totally just leave the downstairs area more open, maybe not even put a tv, make it the kids play area with a couch and some toy organization. And then you can keep the upstairs more adult and how you want it. Then if they want to watch tv, you all get together and watch tv and movies upstairs! Maybe even a projector would be cool downstairs! Just throwing out ideas! The house is beautiful, you chose a really good one!

That gas stove in the basement makes me nervous with little toddlers! Find some child locks or something for that! I would make that basement space an all play area! I would make the top for tv downstairs for all things play:)

The main floor can be your living room ! The downstairs can be your kids space ! So they can have cube shelves with toys a slide or a nugget something to get energy out aswell as their normal toys ! Since it's hardwood during the winter it might be fun to make them clean everything up and allow them to ride bikes in a circle ! The downstairs kitchen can have drinks a handful of kids cups for drinks (leaving room in your kitchen for wine glasses !) Aswell as adding some baby Proofing on cabinets that house things such as paint, markers, construction paper, printer paper, sissors, glue, etc. Add a small table or stools for doing crafts and a small couch for you to sit at while they play if you want to be down there !

It also might be beneficial on the weeks that they go to Oscar's if it's hard seeing their stuff because you miss them that you can go upstairs and get a break from their stuff.

I wonder if you did a queen loft bed and then a another queen on the floor underneath, kind of like a bunk bed but Montessori style to save floor space for toys. My son has this with a twin and the Kura bed from ikea
