Exactly! Well said. These hymns were written and meant to glorify God. When people add all of their own embellishments they put the attention on themselves and lose the Spirit behind the hymn. I love these old hymns played plain and simple. Beautiful. Let the Holy Spirit be the interpreter.

I was 6 years old when I first heard this hymn in Mass, and I loved it. I remember playing with my toy horses and humming it. I remember riding in the car and humming it. I remember wiping up my messes and humming it. I even remember humming it before bed when I was trying to fall asleep. I was literally obsessed. Looking back, this brings back memories.
