It is confirmed that the mum is just jealous of the affection and care he shows for Ari and her sister. I think she should understand that because he didn’t grow up with her he wouldn’t have that much of an intimate bond with her. Especially because he believed she didn’t care that much about him since he had to be in America alone. It’s not like he doesn’t care for her, he just expresses it differently because of the disconnect. I think sometimes parents need to understand that the experience of their child growing up affects how the child will relate with them in adulthood. Just because you believe you have done the best for your child doesn’t mean you didn’t hurt them along the way, even if it was unintentional.

Hmm... I don't think the jealousy showed itself too much here though. She didn't even pursue it when he first told her that they're not for her and that he got her nothing. But she did take offence at the fact that when he was thinking about something so basic as the safety of his loved ones, he completely forgot about the mother who birthed him and I think it's fair that she feels upset here. As much as she wronged him in the past due to circumstances, he wronged and hurt her here too. I don't think she wants the same level of care and devotion he has for Ari, but she wants to be... somewhere, even if it's just a small tiny spark, in his thoughts.
