My mom was never a hitter. She's too good. She's an angel. 😍 But my dad was the opposite. He's short tempered and a disciplinarian. It just so happens that I was a naughty child and a rebellious teen so I was hit a lot of times. One time, I was listening to music using the computer while he was watching the tv. He told me to lower the volume of the speaker but I did not listen. After a minute, a pillow flew and it hit me in the head. Wow, it hurt so much. My father could've been a baseball player with that strength. 😂😂😂 Now, I miss him.

I come from a Southeast Asian family also grew up there, I don’t agree with educating by hitting, threatening or other things that hurt physically and mentally even though the goal is to discipline children, this is toxic and many normalize, it will have a bad impact when the children grows up without them knowing it or not. I hope more people can applied gentle parenting in the right way.

When I see "it's their culture", "it's common to do that in Asia". I didn't know it was specific to Asia haha I'm french and when I was a child my parents would use whatever was around, never a fry pan though that must hurt so bad xD And I noticed that a lot (not all of them) of young adults who didn't get even a little slap growing up are rude as hell now.

when i was in elementary school, (i am now 15 lmao) i rebelled pretty bad to my mom and dad. like, i lie constantly and be rude and spout things before I think. And because I mature so fast and I am pretty much an emotional thinker, I always think WHY I behave like that. Being rebellious will only make you hurt. I got slapped by both of my parents for throwing tantrums and as a human being, I HATE being afraid to someone you love and getting painful. So I appreciate both of my parents so much I do everything they wanted to. After all, you only live once and who will be proud of yourself if it wasn't the one who takes care for you? That's why I never understand parents who didnt show love to their children. I really don't know why. Lots of my friends has issue with theirs and it makes me think A LOT about people's personality and what makes they act like that.

My grandma would hit, throw, yell, yank. My grandma is so strict, my sister would still get in a lot of trouble, but 3 years ago, she just got to where she would talk in a calm voice. I feel like something bad going to happen. Before my grandma passed away she wouldn’t deal with my sister anymore, because she stay getting in trouble, even up to when she passed away, she doing thing to get in trouble. It sad that she still doing it, but I’m grateful for my grandma teaching and for everything. My grandma passed away last year, I’m glad that I get to spend every minute with her, even to her last minute.

this is way, i like Korean so much than American. i mean, it's so relatable in so many ways. like their attitudes and such. sometimes if you watching some western films in how you treat your children , it's nothing so relatable to my life than watching chinese, korean film so it's less interesting

I spent most of my teen years at boarding school so I didn't really get to spend much time with my family, till now. But there is one time that I lost my attitude while fighting with with my baby bro. I was 16 and he was 12 back then. Things got really bad to the point that my mom interfered. But being hot-tempered child, I lashed out to my mom and then for the first time ever(hopefully last time as well) SLAPPED me so hard that I swear I see stars after that. I was quite shocked and started to pour my heart out, how she always let my siblings win and get whatever they want but not me, since I am the eldest. My mom also was dumbfounded when she slapped me that hard and could not talk at all. That was the turning point when she started to be more attentive, little by little. Even now, after 10 years, though my mom and I do fight sometimes but at least she make efforts to be more attentive to me and I really try my hardest to tame my hot temper and be a good daughter to my mom.

bean Hitting people seems to be normal in Korea. The forehead flick, plastic hammer, butt slapping, spanking, etc.... I know one Korean teacher who throws shoes and trash cans at students... Not condoning it but that's how their culture is. I doubt Somi's mom really wanted to damage her leg, but she lost her temper and did what she did.

MariaMars it actually made the kids more disciplined and respectful, you know? Nowadays, parents spoils their children too much that there are a lot of cases where students put their teacher to jail just because they pinch their students. I even read the news this morning that a student hit a teacher to death just because the teacher put some ink to the student's face to wake him up during the art lesson. The student is at fault first. How fucked up is that? They became too spoilt and unrespectful. I really fear for my country's future because of this. And i really really don't make up these stories. They're in my country's news.

If you're white, you wouldn't understand. Parents hit us to discipline us so we don't grow up to be spoiled assholes. As we grow older, we tend to be more thankful to them for chastising us the way they did because then we know how to properly behave ourselves. We aren't soft as shit. I've been hit by my parents like punched in the face (bc i lied & caused them to worry), hit by hangers & belts but I think I turned out fine and more thankful that I got trained like that because after they hit me, they apologize and make me understand what I've done wrong... that humbled me. So again, it's not normalizing abuse. One can't even call it abuse lmao. But if you're white, you'd definitely won't understand 😂

i'm an asian living in asia and i have to say getting hit by ur parents is rly common here ;; i was a stubborn and naughty kid so i was hit by my parents even when i was only 3, but it doesn't necessarily mean they don't love their kids. all parents love their kids, including asian parents even tho we get hit by a variety of things like pots, pans, feather dusters, belts, brooms and we even have canes specially made to hit children lmao. it's just culture differences; i know that in the west it may seen as abuse but in asia it's so common :|||
