I first heard this song in the korean film The north and south and I was absolutely heartbroken both by the film and the music. It is the most painful and yet beautifully touching song I've ever heard about love and loss, a horrible pain that only a horrifying and absurd war that divided a country can cause. This rendition of the song is truly wonderful and heartbreaking.

ALi's vocals are really incredible. Great to convey such deep emotions. The audience are crying like they are brought back to that time in Korea. Her voice depicts the cries and sorrow of those people in the vtr. She should have won, but Seo Moontak did. She deserve to win also.

Hi Pearl. As you probably know, there is South and North Korea that used to be one country. At some point way back something happened to split the country in two. Unfortunately, some people in the North got separated from loved ones who ended up in the South. I think this song is about a young girl separated from her mother, one on one side of the border to the other, and she is asking around if anyone has seen her. There was a time, which I think was in the 80s, where both sides met with their relatives. That is shown in the film behind Ali. I can't say my info is 100% accurate, but it gives a bit of an outline to what the song is about.

While the song is about that, about someone looking for a particular person, the context behind it is the reunification efforts for those separated during the declaration of the Korean War armistice in 1953. The videos were part of KBS's past broadcasts of North and South Korean relatives who were torn and split apart during the war. The song, too, was about this.
