I am a JSU alumna , but I cannot go without saying that I am very, very , extremely disappointed in Southern. They have the arrangements but didn’t execute. I am very proud of the BOOM cause they playing with their chest‼️

I'm a Bama State Fan, I can't lie people gotta appreciate the musicianship of JSU this season. They haven't taking a loss yet. When you are a fan of music you gotta commend them for that. They Clearly showed they are head and shoulders above everybody this season. I love my Hornets, but I gotta tip my hat to JSU. Every band gave They best against them, and JSU took every battle. I get chills listening to those arrangements from JSU. They're on a different level this year. No one has been able to touch them this year. The SBOTS by far is the best band in all of HBCU's right now. When it comes to sound, musicality, arrangements and execution, the SBOTS is unmatched. I expected more from Southern since they requested this battle and did worse this time than the 1st.

As long as SU has a Taylor, Todd and Kenneth led staff, they’ll continue to decline. Simply put, JSU is simply playing, writing and directing at a higher level (right now). Southern dropped that rap mix hoping that JSU would follow suit and allow them to drop some finesse pieces to steal a few Ws. Right plan....wrong band. The Boom stayed in that book and walked off with a fatality under their belt.

Here's my opinion, first of all, I applaud both bands for making it throughout the season. Two, I like both bands but I am mainly an SU fan. SU band however hasn't been "Southering" the way it should be. I love this band to death. SU always has had a good band, so even if this year wasn't their most dominant, that doesn't make them a horrible band. It's just the song selection choices and execution that are throwing them off. I feel like most of the SU Band has a lot of freshmen. The trumpets haven't been the same since 2014. But SU still has a good future and always will be a good band. Jackson State, they have been toying with a lot of bands this year. Seasons come and go and so do bands change. JSU got their lick back and are kings of the SWAC for the 23-24 season. It just wasn't Southern's year, and that's okay. Some bands need humbling experience. Conclusion: JSU won this battle and was clean. SU was pushing watts as always, but skating of the trumpets, lack of creativity, and poor song selection have been their downfall. Now I expect SU to be better for the Bayou Classic. Great job to both bands for the season and at the end of the day, it's all love for the culture. Can't wait for next year for both programs. Side note: I wanna attend SU so badly because I was introduced to it by a band alumni of my high school band who is now there and he will be graduating soon. I pray to God SU will get it together during my senior year of high school because I don't wanna waste taking a plane ride from Maryland to Louisiana only to just get blown out by JSU. Side Note 2: DR. TAYLOR PLEASE GET BETTER WITH THESE SONG SELECTIONS! IDK WHAT HAPPENED FROM LAST YEAR BUT BRING SOME OF THAT STUFF FROM LAST YEAR BACK BECAUSE SOME OF THIS YEAR'S MUSIC AIN'T HITTING! I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE BAND, I MEAN THE MUSIC IN GENERAL ON RADIO AND OTHER PLATFORMS. MOST OF IT SEEMS IDENTICAL AND LACKLUSTER COMPARED TO LAST YEAR. Side Note 3(Final): JSU is the king of the SWAC, but it's still not over for SU. They can come back next year because to be true kings, you can't just dominate one year and then go flat for the next few years. You have to have a reign of supremacy on the SWAC and be consistent about it. JSU can feel good about this year but when the new year hits, everything else starts over. You can't be complacent. That goes for Southern, heck every HBCU band. Even with some HBCU band conferences I don't typically listen to, you gotta improve everytime. , something that SU has been doing for decades since the legendary Dr. Issac Greggs(R.I.P. 🕊). So in a general sense, maybe this year was the type of year SU needed. I know from experience with my high school band. We can have off days but then come back stronger. That's the whole point of life. So, with that being said, SU is not the worst band in the world. They have hiccups like everyone else does. I believe they will improve because it's in their history. All the directors from Greggs to Taylor are all SU grads. They have been under the system. They will get it together.

Just keep in mind, as Southern tries to regroup and get right, JSU also will keep getting better, stronger and bigger. They will not be satisfied, it's a movement and expectation to stay on the mountain top

If you decide to go to Southern you’ll be joining an organization of consistent excellence that stretches back over 50+ years that no program (music or sports) in any conference can compare to. Win, lose, or draw there’s a reason why we’re the most popular band in the nation. One of your greatest life achievements will be earning that S on your chest and knowing that every bandsman you meet either loves you or hates you, but they definitely respect you. The program is in great shape. Just needs some tightening up in some areas. Just know, what some consider at our “worst” is still competing with their “best”
