French House Renovation 2022: The Barn

We bought this property in 2012 and have been working on it since 2013. Almost 10 years! Obviously the work is going much slower than we wanted, and COVID-19 kept us away for 2020. This video shows part of what we got done in the summer of 2022 (yes I'm very slow in posting updates). On the property there is a 'hanger' which we are converting to an apartment, and a house/stable/barn - mid-terraced. The barn is a bit of a scary project because the peak is about 8m off the ground, and some of the walls are leaning dangerously. Last summer I started converting this into semi-covered terrace space. My favorite highlights: 8:40 where the roof comes down, and 12:10 where I start building a timber frame to support the roof trusses.

Intense! There is so much going on. Huge amount of work. I'm usually sensitive to background music behind commentary, but this is foreground music! Works for me.

It always surprises me, how these walls have stood so long when you see whats in them, yet they do.. good workout climbing those ladders lol cheers

They weigh tons per square meter, but you can pull them down with your hands! People complain about cement render, but I think that was all that was holding that one up. I enjoy your videos!

I know you didn't ask for feedback, so I hope you are ok with it. Definitely the music needs to be toned down like others have said. A lot of people find this content to be relaxing, which is a big part of why they watch it. Your editing is backward. Make your still photos 2sec at most and slow down your video by a lot. It's ok to speed up the footage somewhat but this was way too much. Looks like a beautiful project though! I hope you know what you're doing. It makes me nervous to see "budget" anything attached to the reno of a centuries old building.

A little explanation of what you are doing at the start of the video would help not just subtitles also why are all the videos sped up so fast you could start slow to help to see what is going on the speed the video up and the music in the videos 😱😱 hope you don’t mind my comments only trying to help I do love watching your journey but I’m sure if you watched other videos of restoration that would help you 👍

It isn't difficult to slow the video down, all you need to do is to select settings then playback speed. Don't be lazy. Or critical. Fix it yourself

I hope you don't make the big mistake to work with cement. The stones and cement are enemies. You'd better use lime.

Some of both actually. The pillar to support the ridge beam is breeze block and cement, but I used lime to rebuild the wall and render.

Nice videos! But the audio is ridiculously loud. Also there are many places where all I see is a guy going up and down a ladder - can’t tell what is happening. Add some text so we know what is happening at each stage. It may be obvious to you, but not to us.
