As always, this woman has always known how to sing so well, but to "act" a song with such feeling and authenticity! I just love her!

Must be such a fun song to sing night after night. I think it's the second best (to Barbra's definitive) movie version. LOVE IT!

Encores! is the best theatrer program going! I saw Kristin Chenoweth in STEEL PEER, her B'way debut. I knew by the end of the evening that she could hold her own alongside the likes of Debra Monk and Karen Ziemba, but that she was going to be as big as she's become - her talent right out of the gate was that obvious.

I wish they would remake the movie with her, and follow the ORIGINAL storyline & songs from the stage version. The S.S. Bernard Cohn is such a fun song.

She would make a very good Daisy, but I can't imagine Chenoweth as Melinda. That transformation requires a timeless kind of sensuous elegance that Streisand embodied for the ages.

@@chrisn7259 I don't think so. Sure, she is an amazing comical actress/performer. But, I don't think she'd be overlooked for that reason. Because, a truly gifted actor/actress is able to be whatever she's needed to be.

Have to agree with previous posters on Barbara Harris being the best performer of this song. There's also another great song from the show titled, "What Did I Have That I Don't Have?". Though both Eydie Gorme and Streisand do the song justice, NO ONE sings it better than Harris. I was fortunate to see her twice on the stage as a kid in THE APPLE TREE and it's one of my fondest theatre performances.

I first fell in love with Kristin as an actress (yes, I'm a Gleek) on last season. I remember thinking, wow this chick has a great voice AND quite an engaging (adorable) personality for the screen as well. I knew she was a theatre' star, but not to the extent that she is. Discovering she's a major Babs fan and the One Less Bell medley was topping on the cake. I really believe KC is going to join that very elite club of superstar singers AND actresses of which there are really only two ...

Thank you for the beautiful clip! I love Kristen, and while Barbra has the best voice, I think Barabra Harris's still gives the greatest version, a really stunning rendition on the cast album.

I actually enjoy the movie version with Barbara Streisand. I would love to see the stage version though. It seems like the plot changed a lot from the original to the movie. Kristin is amazing. I met her (briefly) at an appearance for "Wicked" and she is even more adorable in person!

I love Barbara Harris,but Kristin is another Daisy Gamble. I knew Alan Lerner in 1966, "Clear Day" was still at the Hellinger. If I had the $ I'd go see Kristin when she's playing Toledo quite soon

@AvalonMorley In all fairness I have to concede that Kristen Chenoweth IS a very talented,well trained singer and performer. It's just that I don't especially care for the level of artificiality she and many other theater performers bring to the stage. It feels emotionally very remote to me and I get a very cold feeling listening. She's excellent though. And I totally agree about Barbara Harris...who according to Alfred Hitchcock was the best actress he ever worked with.

@casualobserver51 I agree the movie absolutely stunk, but regardless, Barbra's performances on each number of Clear Day have become the definitive versions. It's amazing that you would not acknowledge the artist that popularized it. But saying that, I love this version. Now on to more important topics; YOU ACTUALLY SAW STREISAND LIVE IN THE ORIGINAL FUNNY GIRL? I hate you!
@tishtashtishtash12 жыл бұрын
I hate to burst the bubble for some of you, but as flawlessly tuneful as Streisand executed this in the film, and as lovingly coddled as Chenoweth rendered in this concert performance, none other than the one and only stage original Barbara Harris took this song and quirkily transformed it onto another level of (as someone here mentioned) some kind of amazing accessibility. Too bad she quit everything a few years later--too sad, for us.
@chrisn72597 жыл бұрын
You think very highly of yourself, assuming your opinion is definitive and would burst the bubble of people who don't agree with you. Chenoweth, Harris and Streisand are all worthy interpreters of this song. We can love all three or one above the other, that's the way it works.
@Eleeia2 жыл бұрын
@@chrisn7259 I think it's unnecessary to accuse someone of thinking "very highly" of oneself just because s/he offers an opinion different from youra and/or others. I agree with that earlier viewpoint. While Barbara Cook is terrific and Streisand is Streisand and Chenoweth plays around as Chenoweth does: Barbara Harris, on the recording, brings more of the character, Daisy Gamble, in the play to her recorded rendition, IMO, and that makes the song belong to Daisy/Harris. For sheer musicality, I prefer Barbara Cook's rendition. I have no great expertise in such matters; I just communicate my reaction and reflection.

Possibly the only reason Barbara Harris didn't become a major star was her shyness and unease with self-promotion. As others have said, she was sensational in ''On A Clear Day,''in several film roles, and before that as a cast member of ''Second City,'' where she had great chemistry with another huge young talent, Alan Arkin.

@gandy74 Surely you mean "thank GOD for Barbara Cook!" Or, for that matter, "thank GOD for Barbara Harris!" Just think if all stage-to-screen musical adaptations got mangled such that practically only one person got to sing in them. Even when that one has a voice as glorious as Ms. Streisand's, it's a terrible shame. Look at what happened to the score and characters of FUNNY GIRL. It's a shame to lose so much of a show, to have practically a one-woman show.
@chrisn72597 жыл бұрын
What song of Fanny's in Funny Girl would you have cut to make room for rather ordinary songs by Eddie, her mother, etc? For better or worse, Funny Girl was shaped around Streisand once they understand what she was capable of. The play and the movie exist because of her.
