I believe the pianist’s name is Kris Bowers. He won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Pianist competition in 2011. These musicians are top notch. No amateurs on that bandstand.

Funny moment when Kris Bowers comes in as Taku Karoda is about to solo on trumpet!

i hate those kinds of comments normally, but seriously - who the hell could dislike it? the bass player's solo brought tears to my eyes, literally. it was such pure beauty.. all of it, all of the performance.

I think the drum guy is a solo himself hahaha. I mean, look at him... He answers the question "do you feel" by drumming the feeling
@vilulfo12 жыл бұрын
So funny at 3:20 - Jose points to Takuya for his solo and Kris Bowers didn't get the message then you see the surprise and crack up. That's what good musicians do - just keep going and don't get uptight!! Very good!.

Once in a great while a singer will emerge from the ashes of yesterdays legends endowed with the spirit and talent of a Holiday or Vaughan or a Etta that will stop you dead in your tracks an make you say OMG! Jose James is just such a talent. An incredibly gifted singer with the voice and poise of old time jazz greats who could take a song and make it their own and even though you may have heard that same song a hundred times before when James sings it, it's like something completely new and unheard. Raw, earthy, sensual are just some of the terms that come to mind when he sings. Whatever you say of him... he's extraordinarily brilliant. Nice upload.

@Smoothways10 жыл бұрын
hate to disagree and he is great but unique? You heard of Bilal?!
@thudthedestroyer51510 жыл бұрын
Axel Baumgarten I like Bilal! Bilal voice is at a higher register and he has a style that is contemporary R&B, where Jose James is more of the old of a main stream jazz talent. I like Bilal, but I think they are very different in many respects so for me, they are not comparable.

I hear a little Gil Scott-Heron in there too

As a beat poet he was the king. I love the vibrato of GSH voice. I agree with you. The voice adds credulity to the lyrics and adds an extreme emotional dimension!
