Be sure to check out our southbound chase! Link is in the description! Give our Facebook a like while you’re at it as well! Huge thanks to CPKC for giving some of us the opportunity to ride aboard the RCP as well as allowing us to gather footage inside the Shreveport Yard! Wishing the steam crew and staff safe travels back home to Calgary!

Canadian Pacific 2816 steam locomotive, pulling three Diesel-electic locomotives, and train of various vocation cars, nice sights, sounds, scenery video! Nice addition are segment glipses of CP 2816 locomotive, along with interior of a couple carriages and Dome Car. Kudos to Canadian Pacific, and all the talented, skilled, dedicated people involved in restoring CP 2816, rail cars, and upkeep. Cheers to all at Canadian Pacific crews, for tour of CAN, US, Mex so everyday folks could see living history. also Thank you for video!

If I only had one chance in my life to ride a class one railroad business train, it would be this one! I’m beyond jealous!

My mom worked for CP a long time ago. Back they would sell tickets for trips on the 2816 Empress. She got me on a trip since employees would get 1st crack at the tickets. I was young but this is one of the memories I have. Getting to ride on this train on CP's main line.

I rode behind 2816 way back in I think it was 2007. That was between Milwaukee's Union Station to Chicago's Union Station via Bensenville on a weekday. Unfortunately, it wasn't a business train, and just had conventional vintage passenger cars along with dome cars and a former Milwaukee Road observation car. It also had a modern CP diesel behind the Hudson locomotive (so, maybe they were "cheating" by using the diesel to assist the steam locomotive). That said, it was a very pleasant ride as the train "dead headed" to Chicago for "fan trips" later on the weekend out of Franklin Park, IL to Sturtevant, WI and back for the paying public.

A sweet video. I can promise you that before I was fortunate enough to meet you in person at the Shreveport Railroad Museum event a month or so back, I would never have willingly sat through--and truly enjoyed--a 25-minute video about a train. You have done a beautiful job. Your love and passion for these machines truly shines through. Onward young man!

This footage is amazing! 2816 is really a marvel and is very impressive. Personally I really hope CPKC doesn’t retire 2816 after the tour, because ignoring some real controversy and craziness in central Mexico, The tour was a real success, and it seems like the crews are taking amazing care of the engine,so it likely will be in good shape! And maybe if that Harrison guy didn’t get in charge, 2816 would have [maybe] been joined by G5a 1201. Hopefully CPKC can keep 2816 running (and PLEASE someday team up with 261 again), and continue with their original plans to evaluate 1201. That aside, this is absolutely amazing footage and deserves a award! Keep up the good work!

And I wish 2816 comes to Portland Oregon and team up sometimes with sp 4449 so 4449 can have auxiliary water tender back with 4449!

I know some current top level executives in the Calgary office. They won't do that. Hunter Harrison was the one who cancelled trips they would sell because it lost the company money. He wanted to sell the train but some executives told him that train is part of their heritage and they just put it into storage. From what I have heard it's basically going to live on but just hang out around Calgary and area again. Like how it use to.

@@mike4food do you mean it is just going to sit in ogden for a long time?
@mike4food4 ай бұрын
@@cden_x40 no it will the executives pull it out for certain things. It will do some PR trips. I personally think they should sell tickets like they use to back in the day. I don’t think it will ever sit when Hunter Harrison was in charge

That was nice of CPKC letting you ride the RCP with #2816. The Selkirk dome car was especially beautiful, and I can imagine it in SP Daylight colors... Speaking of the Selkirk name, I am reminded of the fact that its also the designation CP had for its 2-10-4s, instead of the normal Texas designation.
@kristoffermangila4 ай бұрын
I also forgot, I had to chuckle about the history of the Glacier dining car. If that car has a spirit, it would be fairly embarrassed that its working now for the rival of the railroad it originally worked for!

I was able to watch this train pass in my town both directions. What is the car behind the engines that sounds like a motor running and it has an exhaust pipe out the top?
@johnbeaulieu24044 ай бұрын
That would be the tender. Steam is used to keep the heavy oil from gelling in cold weather, and the pipe exhausts the used steam.
