This is a painting tutorial showing how I painted the skin on the Twilight Detective pinup from the Kingdom Death Monster series. ...
This video is intended for ages 16 and over.
KDM have some interesting models, this one has an odd asymmetrical thing going on that's quite interesting. In the tutorial I go over how to paint the skin from start to finish and give various tips along the way. I cover quite a lot of techniques in the course of the video, including layering, glazing, stippling, two brush technique, a couple methods for correcting mistakes, etc. There's more to get to grips with than your standard skin painting tutorial, so I hope you enjoy it. Thanks!

I really appreciate these detailed and slower paced guides; they are fantastic as learning tools. Often I find 'how to paint' videos go too fast, or they apply a few brush strokes and then immediately skip ahead to a finished step.

Yeah his pace and detail is pretty much why my guys don't look like they were painted by a 12 year old version of myself (with a milimeter thick coat of paint on faces). Still can't do eyes worth a damn with a brush though. Luckily, there are micron pens in existence ;)

I always like to see different approaches. Each time I learn something new. To move the paint as less as possible I will focus on in the future. This wasn't new but always good to hear and bring it back to my attention. Glad you're back! On the last step, why did you use the ink instead of a 'normal' red?
@KujoPainting
@KujoPainting 5 жыл бұрын
I use the ink because it's more intense than normal paint, but also because it's more transparent and lets you alter the colour without covering up the details below it. Ink has a little shine to it when it finishes as well which is pretty cool.

Thanks! I also wish I hadn't stopped painting for about the same amount of time. Ah well, we're painting again now, that's what counts! The choice of grey is not so important no, but you should experiment with different greys to see how it changes the look.

Any advice on thinning paint? I’ve never really felt like I’ve gotten complete control over my ratio. Yours always seems to be at that sweet spot of thin but smooth
@KujoPainting
@KujoPainting 5 жыл бұрын
Ignore any advice trying to offer ratios, all paints are different so the amount of water you'll need will vary. Just go by how the paint feels on the palette. Test it on your thumb nail. What you want is for the paint to be semi transparent but under your control. If it sloshes about all over the place when you test in on your thumbnail, it's too thin, add some paint. If it's not transparent, it's too thick, add some water.

Your local artist supply store should have some larger size wet palettes. Pro-tip: the ones there often use a different paper than the parchment you're probably used to since it's designed for a different consistency of paints. Just ignore it if you don't like it and use parchment instead. Just don't buy and extra wad of paper unless you're sure that's what you want.

No, never. I have a stripped down painting philosophy. Painting is complicated enough without throwing in a load of special potions on top, so I prefer to keep it as simple as I can and just use paint, water and a brush.

In the era of "me too", which I FULLY AGREE WITH & SUPPORT, it might be kind of controversial, but these miniatures are for "fantasy games"....as a woman, I'd be totally down with a tutorial in painting booties & boobies....the "dudes" get lots of videos on painting big muscles, so I think a little Booty/Boobie tips should be okay? You obviously don't paint them like muscles. But: I can take your tips on painting metallic spheres, and just work that with fleshtones, I guess....PS: for a laugh for Kujo or anyone who reads this: in my 20s and 30s, when I went out clubbing or on dates, I routinely used subtly sparkly highlighter and bronzer to "enhance" my "assets💃🤣💃. Sadly, the "assets" are kind of way past that point now, it would look ridiculous😥😂🤣

Thanks. I don't usually paint with the goal of making a tutorial, I tend to just record what I'm painting and then make that into a tutorial. @KujoPainting
@KujoPainting 5 жыл бұрын
Other than the colour, they all have different properties, how they handle, the way they glaze, the way they look when they dry, etc. GW and F&G have a nice satin finish, but F&G has more transparency, so it's easier to do subtle blends. Scale color also has high transparency but they dry super matt so they're useful if you want to force a highlight without having extra highlights cast from the room lights. They're also better for glazing with as they don't react badly to being overly thinned with water.
