I'm so glad the video helped and that you liked the final piece :D I'm currently working on a 'how to animate' series which I hope will help with getting started and learning the basics, then gradually building up to something like this, but if there's anything you're confused about or want more clarity on I'll add it to my list!

I have used 3ds Max and Maya for work, and just love Blender. #1 Grease pencle: global brush library, and a more refined draing experience. #2 I wish you could make clothes better like marvelous designer. I have three clothes making addons, and while they work, they rely heavily on blender cloth. This different than clothes. So yes, please add a specific clothes solution. #3 A better pathway to make an output for 3d printers.

List of Grease Pencil Questions 1. Why is the fill not working? 2. How to connect points in a vector? 3. How to make an acute angle in a vector? 4. How to make a smoothing brush?
@kdsketch Жыл бұрын
1. The fill has had an update since I made this video and seems to be more accurate! make sure your material is switched to a 'fill' rather than 'stroke' from the options available if just switching to the bucket tool doesn't seem to do anything! 2. I think this is CTRL + J though I don't use this much 3. not too sure on this one? 4. I mainly deal with texture and line detail brushes and if I want the line to be smoother I'll use the stabiliser in the advanced/stroke menus at the top.

You're amazing! I've been learning Blender for motion graphics for the past few months, and I mostly use the 3D part. However, I've been an illustrator for much longer, and now that I'm familiar with Blender, I'm looking to use the 2D tools to start my first proper animation project, instead of just motion design. But I wanted to ask you something: why not create the entire scene directly in Blender? Do you think it's too much work? I like to reduce the number of software tools in my workflow, and I use Photoshop, but I would love to create the scene directly in Blender. Actually, I had an idea of creating the scene in 3D and exploring that mode where the outlines stand out, called cell shading. I still need to learn how to use it, but that's my goal. However, I would love to see some of your work where the scene was created entirely in Blender, as it seems like the tools are good enough to create a great-looking scene. I'm eagerly waiting for your response. I love your channel!!!

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video ✨ the reason why I didn’t make the background in blender was because grease pencil layers currently only have a couple of blending modes available and I use them a lot when trying to get the look I want (and why I used TVPaint for them instead!). I’m hoping they’ll add more blending modes in new versions of grease pencil! Currently I’m looking at mixing 2D and 3D or at least getting 2D planes positioned to make it feel 3D 😅

What is the recommended workflow to string together multiple scenes? As in completely different backgrounds/characters etc? is it feasible to do the background drawings in blender aswell? or would you recommend using photoshop or similar for that?

I just finished my first multiple shot animation in blender BUT probably wouldn’t recommend doing it my way 😅 going to be testing out the storyboard add on to hopefully find out a better workflow! I just started using Blender to animate for my 2d class after I ran into a few road blocks on Krita - can I ask why you made the backgrounds in Krita instead of straight in Blender? I'm super new to this, so thank you! Could you have made the same backdrops straight in Blender? I'm trying to figure out how to fast track my process.
@kdsketch Жыл бұрын
I made the backgrounds in TVPaint because I have a lot more blend modes for layers and it was much faster for me to get the look I wanted there. It’s possible to make the backgrounds in blender but there’s currently a limited number of blending modes so it wouldn’t be quite the same! I’m hoping they add more in the future!
@FrancoAversa Жыл бұрын
Your drawings are really beautiful, both the backgrounds and the characters. The final animation is truly amazing. I'm just sorry that the flight of the seagull is superimposed on the shot of the girl with the dog, making the camera a little dead, and honestly with all the work you've done I would have slowed it down a bit to be able to enjoy it better. Sorry, it's just my opinion, but you're definitely a professional and this is immediately evident from the videos you make. Compliments.

Wooou I had no idea you can animate 2D in Blender...this is so cool!! Is there something this software can´t do?...Jeez I feel like a dinosaur now. I animate in TVPaint and I want to learn Blender more, but for now it seems so complicated from my beginner perspective :D Can I ask you stupid question? Why animate in Blender? Would you say it´s better? I´d understand using Blender for camera movement and compositing but isn´t easier to do the animation itself in TVPaint and then add it to Blender? Is it just personal preference or is there some big advantage doing it in Blender?? ..I mean If you forget that blender is free and TVPaint is paid.. It seems like a time saver to me, but only when you know what you do and where everything in Blender is :D But anyway, great video really, thank you so much! I´ll definitely try something too :)
@kdsketch2 жыл бұрын
it's only really been the last couple of years that they've added grease pencil and started to fine-tune it! check out Worthikids and Dedouze for some great tutorial/workflow videos - their stuff is AMAZING and done entirely in blender! I actually animate in tvpaint too and I love it, at the moment I'm trying more of a hybrid style where I'll animate/composite in blender - definitely easier there - but the colouring and blending modes aren't up to scratch yet so I'd probably take it back to tvpaint to colour and texture! I love trying out different softwares and blender has been requested a lot -- and because it's free it's a lot more accessible for people who want to make animation if they can't afford something else :) Blender definitely hasn't replaced tvpaint for me - though I am liking being able to switch between them when I need to! So glad you enjoyed the video!!
@vecmich2 жыл бұрын
@@kdsketch Cool! Thank you for the tip! I'll definitely check it out and you I´m gonna totally follow :) That "hybrid style" you are talking about sounds great. It seems to me like an ideal option, to combine the magic of cartoon animation with the advantages of 3D. But I still haven't managed to find enough time to explore it more. If a person could be divided into several parts at work and then put back together that would be awesome :D Thank you again, all the best!!! :)

@@vecmich I always think 'what if I could copy myself?' so I could work on multiple things haha! I'm planning on doing a blender basics video once I've wrapped up a couple of other projects so hopefully that'll help - I was SUPER intimidated by blender before I made this haha :) You're welcome!! Have a good week :)

@@kdsketch Haha yesss me too! So much work we could do, right? And then you could also have a LIFE outside of computer once a while. Ou yes... some copies would be really nice sometimes... OR to have more hours in a day. Looking forward to your video! :) But don´t forget to relax sometimes (i know, it´s super hard.. and that´s why is great to have a dog! :) Byeee for now, good week to you also!

Hey kd I have a question: so I own tv paint and after effects, my after subscription ends soon, due to not being able to afford it any more, I use after effects for plugins such as add line boils to background assets (objects in the background of my animations) pngs. Just wanted to know if blender or any other free software supports an automated line boil plug-in which adds the boils with your having to redraw the same image. Thank you

I use the noise modifier in blender to create boiling lines with grease pencil - i haven't fully tested out the compositing side of blender yet, it's one of my MANY to-dos! I think you can apply it to grease pencil, 3D objects and imports though unsure whether it would work on the lines for a transparent PNG? I've had a look and can't find anything so far, might be worth putting this up as a post on the blender forums!

Just had another look and you might want to check out davinci resolve - they have 'fusion' which I've seen most people compare to after effects. there's a free version and a paid one - the paid is a pay once deal which is much better than adobe! I believe the feature is called 'turbulent displace' hope this helps!!

@@jeromemccalla9520 maybe check out the fast noise filter in davinci too! seems to add a wiggle - most people use it for water effects but looks like if you could tone it down the effect is similar to a line boil :) definitely check out MrAlexTech who does some good Davinci tutorials!

Can i know what the background music is? It looks different from the Hallow's Beach you posted.

Everything is from either Streambeats by Harris heller or the KZbin audio library:)

wow, but how did you get the sound effects without copyright?
@kdsketch Жыл бұрын
I either made them myself or used freesound and checked for no attribution licenses :)

would it be possible to have motion blur on elements to match the swooping down motion of the camera?

Haven’t tried the motion blur yet! Definitely something for a future project!! :)

at 7:53 you say you use the attribute setting because you can change colors without having to make a new material, but you don't explain how to switch to the attribute setting! How do you do this? I can't find it anywhere
@kdsketch Жыл бұрын
I change from material to attribute settings (at the top toolbar in draw mode) at 6:44
