This was a wonderful introduction to many of the birds I have seen since moving to Oahu and more that I would like to see in their natural habitats. Thanks for posting this presentation and making it public. Thanks @heavensbutterflies for sharing the tip to tourists about kapu. I will be mindful of this when we hike and explore.

I didn't hear it in the video sadly but does anyone know of a bird on Oahu that makes a sound that almost sounds like "uli uli uli"? Ive been trying to find the birds that make it, its such a pretty sound, but I haven't had any luck so far.

Mahalo, and Malama pono to Keali'i Ballao and friends. My mother , Josefina was well known in the island of Maui. Tell tourists that it is considered kapu to take any twig , stone or animal or plant from the islands unless legally bought. I am in granada Hills, today. I knew mostly Oahu and kauai when I was there. I only saw Kahului from the air and at the airport. Aloha ! David Baumgartner

Very informative!! We are staying in Hilo and hearing birds singing day and night. Now know what species they are. Thank you!

99% of what you hear in Hilo isn’t native birds unfortunately.

Hi! I love your work! Please help me with an info. While parrotbill sounds were playing, in the background was another birds playing. I'm trying to identify that bird call. My husband proposed me on Big Island and we were hearing all the time that bird that we named it "the happy bird" because of it's sound like "ha-ppy, ha-ppy". If you know what bird is it, it will be very helpful for us. Thank you!

Was it during the day time or night time? Around night time the coqui frogs can be heard, and they sound sorta similar

Does anyone know what kind of bird sounds similar to the Apapane that lives in the hau bushes on the west side of oahu? Thought it was a pheasant or quail but it's not.

The best way to learn these is to liken it to a bird you already are familiar with....for example the I'iwi sounds like a small Yellow-headed Blackbird (Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus).

@maustank52244 жыл бұрын
It's extinct now, the last recording of the o'o was in the late 80's.
