I grew up in a typical Sindhi household where my uncle would listen to Jalal on his cassette player, that we simply called "tape". It was a time when people had special relation to their tapes and the one owned by my uncle was adorned with various colorful accessories on its two speakers. Being so young, I obviously didn't get what the fuss was about, and we listened to more modern or upbeat Sindhi artists on cassettes. Later, in my late teens I discovered the internet and had a sudden exposure to the music of other languages (given my curious nature). I listened to the English pop, and thought to myself "Man, this is the music. The music of Jalal weighs nothing in front of it." But needless to say I couldn't have been more mistaken. In my early twenties I kept listening to pop, and in late twenties I moved toward alternative rock, metal, and then to western classical (Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi, and the likes). It was when I listened to the classical western music that I came to realization that Jalal's music is equally important, in that it offers a unique view of its own and it moved close to my heart. Now, I cherish Jalal as much as I love Fozia and other Sindhi singers and the reason for that is largely to do with the fact that they are part of my younger years and so the nostalgia overpowers the critical judgement of a piece of music. I now enjoy Jalal as much as I am moved by a piece by Chopin, Mussorgsky, or a track by Opeth or Black Sabbath, or a song by OneRepublic, 21Pilots, etc., All of the music that I have listened through the years has come to merge inside me and complements varying genres and styles. It's a beautiful feeling.

He ruled the sindhi world of music from 70s to 90s. his competency on yek tara and khartal was unique. His fast rythem stand him in the best singers of all time of sindh. May Allah rest his soul in peace. What an era gone with his passing away.
