Halfbreed is the GREATEST album that hardly anyone knows. There's still not a week or two go by without me digging it out again. Losing John Mayall reminds me the connection he had with Keef for years! RIP John, and Keef.... lets hope they're having a jam session again somewhere .....xxx

I purchased an album sampler in 1971 here in Irving Texas it was called Power Blues and it had Keith Hartley doing leaving trunk it blew me away. That is all I ever knew about the Keef Hartley band in the last 47 years outside of what some of the album covers look like. With KZbin I have discovered several things that I didn't know before. For one I am now aware that Gary thain of Heep was with Keith at one time. I saw the September 15th 1974 concert in Dallas Texas where Gary thain was electrocuted on stage during Sweet Lorraine. I also watch them paramedics wheel him out on a stretcher and put him in an ambulance as Suzi Quatro walked by. It was refreshing to me to learn new information about him. Also I didn't know that he had played Woodstock. Thank you for posting all this interesting data on the Keef Hartley band.

Very cool track. Reminds me a bit of Blodwyn Pig,who I like very much. Interesting horn arrangement on this. My sister saw KH at Woodstock and earlier, at Fillmore East in NYC. Thanks for posting this video.

Hi Steve. There are a couple of contenders for this. There is an instrumental track called Tadpole on the second album that Gary's playing is quite prominent in. Its a long track too. Also you could try the medley that took up the whole B side of the live album "Little Big Band". A lot of the players take solos here. Finally Gary puts in some amazing playing on Born to Die an amazing slow blues that runs for 10 minutes on the debut album called Halfbreed. Hope some of that helps... By the way, Keef always said he rated Gary's playing higher than any other and reckoned that Gary and himself somehow always knew exactly where the other was going when they improvised on stage. It tore chunks out of Keef when Gary died

Up there with any American horn band of the time (BS&T, the Flag, Butterfield). Just outstanding stuff. Is that Ian Cruikshank on guitar?

+J Helak I saw "The Time is Near" band live, and it's still a favourite album.

+Bill Peter I think it was Millers fave album too. Keep said Time is Near and Overdog were the band at their best
@dominiquem81935 жыл бұрын
No, it's Miller Anderson, that was only singing and playing the second guitar on the first album and took the lead guitar after Ian "Spit James" Cruickshank had left the band.

J. Helak No Ian had left the band by this point so that's miller singing & playing some fine guitar.

Does anyone know the song/album that has the Gary Thain bass solo? If i remember rightly it was a long piece..maybe a complete side of an album. Steve.

He left the band after the first album and began the best english Gypsy Jazz guitarist under his real name, Ian Cruickshank, after he had discovered the great Django Reinhardt. He sadly passed away April 2017 at 70. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3mWkp5mmLqYnKs

His look had totally changed with the music, as you can see on the picture (it's him below and he is hardly recognizable...).

I think Jack White very much took from their sound. He's also a drummer. This sound is basically duplicated in his Raconteurs band. Wouldn't surprise because he has a Terry Reid song with quite a bit of British power blues on the radar for the Detroit sound.

They're good musos but structurally and the live dynamics it's kind of a mildly chaotic mess
