Dear Izzy, I am very happy to hear from you again and thank you for your kind compliment. There have been some very extreme weather conditions in parts of the US. I hope that you have not been affected by them. Best wishes Maurice

A song that could only work if sung by Andy Stewart, Kenneth McKellar, the man himself, or at the very least, in a Scottish accent. You've proved me wrong on all counts! Sir Harry Lauder is said to have written this song around the time of his son's death in WW1. He'd certainly have needed a strong dose of courage to get him through, or even divine inspiration perhaps. I feel renewed strength every time I hear it & certainly on this occasion! Did you know you'd chosen 'Blue Monday' to post it? A belated Happy New Year & you have my permission to sing other Scottish songs, though you'll be hard pushed to find one as rousing & inspiring as this!

I am very pleased that you like my version of this wonderful song. I think the feeling in the song is universal and anyone on the planet could respond to it. I was very interested to know the information you gave me that Harry Lauder's son died in World War I and that this song was born out of the sorrow he felt. Happy New Year Paul. Best wishes Maurice.
