Looking for a way to keep your carbides from destroying your new garage floor or trailer deck?
Check out the solution I came up with for this frustrating problem.
NOTE: The product shown in this video will reduce the steering effectiveness and of your skis and carbides. Use with Caution and follow the manufacturers directions.

Sorry I've been away guys. I recently lost my brother. You don't stop and think what you've got until it's gone.... I've been a lucky guy, 3 great brothers and an equally great little sister. But I'm back and so is the snow. Anyway, this is a video I started working on a while ago....how to protect your floor or trailer bed from carbide damage...ENJOY!

@@MyOldSled yes, we think of him everyday even though it has been almost six years. I enjoy your videos, comparisons of the old SkiDoo and the newer model. We have old SkiDoo sleds, pre-2000. I wasn't aware they used AC voltage for lighting and thought my VOM had either failed or the rectifier circuit had shorted out.

Sincere Condolences David and welcome back. Love your “every day man” vids. I built a “shop” upon retirement and got back into snowmobiling after a roughly 20 year hiatus. I too, didn’t want my floor scarred nor the lip to my floor chipped-out. I took a different path however. ( though admittedly, more expensive) If you ever shop Costco, they sell heavy-duty rubber mats made from recycled rubber. I bought enough to cover my entire shop floor. They are a great insulator too and much nicer to work on than the concrete. When winter is over, I stack them so the concrete can breathe. I made a wooden ramp that cover the lip into the shop and I drive in with no damage.

I put thick rubber mats down near the entrance of my garage, I back the sled in and it protects the floor and the carbides. Sometimes they get dragged forward but I just put them back before I back in. This has saved the floor from any scratches, I am unstudded. The new ski's have retractable carbides I would buy those if I needed ski's.

Condolences to your family, these events always bring clarity to what is truly important in life. I have a new expedition, the ice ripper track and new carbides are really doing a number on not only the floor, but the driveway too! The boots looked like the steering was troublesome. Hope you get snow.

Hi AW. They’re not meant for riding, they’re meant for getting it onto a trailer or into a garage. They are going to do the exact opposite of what carbides do, so you’re not going to turn with them on. Thanks for watching.

I've got the Qualipieces Rollerskis on my 2019 MXZ. They are fantastic for longer road runs, gas stations, and most importantly my driveway and garage. I drive right into my garage with the wheels down and then pop the dollies underneath. I won't ever have a sled without them after my experiences so far.

Glad to see your back and truly sorry for your loss... Not my idea but I borrowed it, went to the auto wreckers and bought an old plastic pick up truck bedliner for $15. Used a circular saw to rip it into 6 inch widths and screwed it to the floor of my trailer. WORKS AMAZING!!! Watching your video has got me thinking that I can use some of the remnants from that project to build my own ski boots. Thanks for the motorvation... Love the bloopers!

Sorry for your loss Dave. My condolences to you and your family. Nice to see you and that your getting back into the groove again. I use a dolly for the transition to the garage. This year I got a set of rollerskis from Qualipieces for my wife's sled and a rubber stall mat. Hopefully that makes things a bit easier and maybe lose the dolly as it does take up a lot of space.

Thanks for the helpful video. I went from single runner carbides to dual runners to help with the darting on my Yamaha 1000 cc 4 stroke. They work great the only problem is trying to back out of the trailer the sled does not want to move very well and slides sideways while I am trying to back up. With a picked track it has damaged the waferboard floor. Maybe those ski boots would help with that.
@MyOldSled
@MyOldSled 7 ай бұрын
I have dual runners on both. The 600 had a carbide on each side of the ski, the 670 has Woody's doolys. Unfortunately I haven't loaded or unloaded from a trailer but it would definitely keep the carbides from digging into the trailer or ramps, so I assume it would track straight with the track

2:07 dude theres a much easier way. just lift up the front of the ski till you can get the dolly under. usually its easy enough to just put it into position with your foot. the skit will center the dolly as long as you get it far enough back.
@MyOldSled

Hi dirt rider. Yes if the sled is too heavy for you, that is one way to do it. It’s easier to get it centred when you lift the ski. With my other sled I will sometimes do it that way.

Of course if you never run your sled over any hard pack snow, ice, asphalt, ever, than the need for carbide is lower. Their job is to improve handling on hard pack and protect the ski from damage when going over rocks etc. Most riders will encounter those surfaces. Obviously this video is aimed at people who run with carbides. Thanks for watching and commenting.
