@@adshar20000 and why do you believe that? I’ve been following her content for a while and as far as I know she has a very strong opinion about cults, having gone through one herself. I have never felt in any way forced to believe something while watching her, forced to worship her in any way (I don’t really as a matter of fact). In fact she herself says many times that we should question everything she says and find our own truth and answers and stop following her if we don’t find her teaching useful (which a cult leader would never say, and I’ve also unfollowed her for a while in the past because she was annoying me) Her methods have helped me immensely with my mental health, I met so many amazing people through her community. So, why exactly is that a cult? I do know that she has been portrayed like this (as a cult leader) in the media a few times, but if you just check out a little bit of what she is talking about, you’ll see that’s total bs, because she doesn’t meet any criteria for a cult (well maybe except the fact that she has a big following, but so does JK Rowling, Dalai Lama and The Catholic Church). But it’s best if you see for yourself anyway ..

*JUST FINISHED WATCHING THIS DOCU* ; To anyone that's curious - I highly recommend!!! I wish it was longer. It was fascinating. What an honor to witness the brave souls of these women that fought for their freedom. Bless their hearts. As someone that's known of the FLDS for years and years now, this docu was amazing and very informative (I got to learn new things I had no idea of prior). I can only imagine just how enriching this would be to watch if you're someone that had no idea of the FLDS. The ending of the docu was very emotional imo. I didn’t realize I was raised in a cult as well until I watched this series. That’s so scary. A lot of the teachings were similar. Like the end of the world, the mystical power, and yes loyalty. They feed your fear. Thankfully we moved and went to a different church. Listened to k-love a lot and started to do my own research with the Bible. I think I learned more in the last 10 years than my parents whole journey. I still love the Bible and it’s teaching and learning everyday, but sometimes church people will blind you to the truth, so I am taking a step back at the moment.

Sometimes I wish Netflix had a chat. I find myself wanting to say so many comments about this series. Man this guy was more evil than I even thought just hearing about him before. Sick monster. What a fake prophet. I too was stuck in a cult from ages 11 to 28. I can attest to the fact that it is so difficult to leave these cults. Because you get brainwashed with threats. But the main threat is you'll never see your family ever again. That one took me a decade to get past it in order to finally gain strength to leave. Literally it breaks you in half leaving them behind. Luckily my mom and rest of my sisters followed my lead but I lost my two older brothers bc they were married in the cult and grew to be loyal to their wives. I never talked with them since age 28 and I'm 56 now. Plus you are wracked with complex PTSD which you have to discover it is even a thing. Took more than a decade to admit my cult experience was worse than I imagined.

Polygamy worked in societies where men were regularly going off to war and being killed, which ensured there were always more women than men. Polygamy isn't sustainable in a peaceful society. You will *always* end up with 'surplus' men, which is exactly what happened with the FLDS. The only way the men in power could keep what they had going was to get rid of the men they saw as competition/threats, which were (no surprise) the young men in the community.

I knew if I asked Him to play a song on the radio, He would. So I said "Ok Lord, play Come as you are..." I didn't know what station it was on or anything, but I turned the radio on and the song started playing right on the spot, perfectly... I started getting flooded with chills inside, trembling, and crying tears of joy. When I got home, He stayed with me for 10 minutes till I got out of the car. I've been getting amazing prayers answered for around 5 years since, because that experience made me stop doubting when I pray, and I follow Biblical instructions, best I can.

The problem with religion is that it conditions and attracts sheep like personality types, as well as sociopaths who want to control and use those types. Once a true sociopath gets a position of power in a religious group, sooner or later it heads in this direction. And the women? they are brainwashed to say they like the life style, and since they claim to like it, goverment just turn a blind eye and pretend they dont exist. I have to say something I'm feeling. Adults who follow these type of narcissist cult leaders are partly responsible for creating a monster. You can't have a cult get so out of hand or monstrous without followers. I was 11 when my mom got sucked into a cult. I finally had the strength to leave at age 28. I too have had to make it right within my soul and take more responsibility that I didn't leave after I graduated from highschool. Yes I was isolated and separated from the world. Yes I didn't have knowledge that there would have been help if I just left but ultimately I know I'm my heart it couldn't have gotten that horrible and entangled if only I left sooner. And told my mom how I was really feeling. She would have ratted me out to her psycho friend but at least I would feel better today if I only would have risen up and understood my own power sooner.

There is this person in the series, a convert who had 2 wives and thousand of children already was not given enough respect( as in more wives) he deserve in his cult community. So he pimped out one of his daughter to a 85 years old bastard for a new wife and lived happy ever after having lots of you know what. And was a happy man living the American dream. But then a horrible thing happened. His prophet had died and the son of the prophet started to marry his mothers. No that is not the horrible thing. The horrible thing was that the prophet pull all the guns out of his cult and that is when the hell broke down for the man. He started to have a crisis in his belief. As American as it can get.⛪🇺🇸

Once we were at Walmart shopping 🛍 and there was a group of them leaving out the store ahead of us. There where 3 men walking in the front while the women were walking behind them. I kinda think this is something the women suppose to do. The men are more superior than the men so the women walk behind them. You could tell it was purposely. Another time i remember at walmart once i saw the women again and my attention was very fixed on the way they dress👗 and I couldn't help but to see how perfect their hair was pinned up. They very plain, minded their own business, and were very quiet. The little girl was so cute. She very well behaved, well dresses, holding her mom's hand. It was almost like they had never been to Walmart before.

I’m a man from the flds and you’re right the women are supposed to be guided by and even take direction from the men when he’s placed in charge. Women generally are told not to go out into the world without the presence of a man for protection unless there’s not a man available. The reason men are always in front is because the leaders don’t want the young men to gaze at the women from behind. We’re trained to sit in front of the women when seated in church and even when riding in vehicles it’s boys in front girls in back so we can’t stare at their body’s from behind. Or at least what you can make out of them under the dresses. They told us we were to be raised like calves in the stall which refers to the males being completely separate from females until you’re assigned in marriage.

@@Noy_shiv facts… people who think they could never be manipulated into a cult are usually the ones who will be. Everyone is susceptible when it comes to emotional and psychological manipulation of cults

@@Lovelesslouvre Especially, if your whole existing even before you were born you and all your community were told that was the only *right* path. You can’t just rip apart someone whole way of life by just telling them that their leader was criminal sexual predator, they learned to live under the fear that if they leaved, they would be doomed from everything that they ever knew. Truly horrible manipulation just made for a cult of pedophiles, but you can understand why some of them just can’t see other way of living now, after all, it’s their religion and if they were fervently taught that they have to wait for the day of their salvation, they will wait as they always did.

@@pazd8151 yess I 100% agree with you! It’s easy to judge from the outside, not realizing how deep the manipulation goes; manipulation works best when isolated. This is their whole life we’re talking about, indoctrination from birth, it’s all they know.

This just gives me shivers to my core!! The world we live in (no matter in what era) is so effing messed up.. sometimes I just can’t fathom what humans are capable of. Of course there are plenty of good people on this planet but most religions are really messed up. It disgusts me. Then women had no rights, and now..? Do they still have rights? No! Not with what’s going on in America right now! Everyone is entitled to their beliefs, but I’m glad I’m an atheist.

I'm really glad Netflix did such a good job documenting the reality of these cults and how difficult it is to be in them. When I finally escaped a cult at age 28 I told people about my experience. Most just stared at me saying nothing. I'm so happy it's being exposed more these days.

I feel you; I don’t doubt that there is a higher power but for me, Christianity specifically, is linked to so much pain, and the indoctrination is wild. I actually don't like organized religion in general. If you find peace in your existence by following a certain religion, go for it but using that religion as a sword and shield to conquer is a no, no. I actually would like to be invited to some sort of religious gathering just to see if they can convert me, highly doubt it though since I'm already at peace in my existence without the use of religion.

Was he able to get any of his children out? How about the man that got kicked out for saying he would stand up to even the prophet if they wanted any of his daughters before they were 18? How do they get to rebuild their life outside if everything was taken from them? What happened to all the boys that get kicked out at such young age? Etc

I haven’t even finished the series but had to comment. This is horrendous. How can one man control so many people; and destroy so many lives. There are now black men promoting, encouraging and trying to recruit women on KZbin for “so called polygamous” relationships. There’s one man who is calling women “selfish” for wanting a monogamous relationship. Women, need to be vigilant regarding these abusive, controlling, dangerous men.

For those not born into them, cults target vulnerable people. People without strong social and family ties, people experiencing a crisis, people down on their luck, people who are easily influenced, people with low self esteem, people looking for someone or something to blame for the state of their life, ignored people. They are also very good at spotting people who will succumb to their way of life and join them. Cults, some murderers, pedophiles and to be completely honest MLM schemes, are all people who have an almost inhuman ability to spot a vulnerable target and how to get them to comply regardless of social status, financial status, intelligence and the persons ties to others.
