@JohnDunigan - a confusion I have, is this. At set up, unless I have loads of shaft lean, the left wrist starts off slightly cupped, right? Now, if I were to start the takeaway keeping the club face square to the path, that to me seems feels it involves _keeping_ that slight cupping. But we often hear that having the left wrist cupped is analagous to having the face _open_ , not closed. Does that make sense? In other words, I think "rolling the club on the inside" comes from a desire to get rid of the cupping of the left wrist that you start off with - certainly for me anyway. If the first move I made in the swing were to _instantly_ un-cup my left wrist, what would that do to the swing? And how, physically, would that be different to 'rolling the wrist on the inside'? I often feel like the left wrist being bowed (or at least, not cupped) is synonymous with the club being on the inside of the plane, i.e. deep, behind me (which is "bad", right?), but the left wrist being bowed/non-cupped is also synonymous with the club face being closed (which, _within reason_ , is "good", right)... - what's the resolution of this apparent paradox?!

Yes, the left wrist is extended at address. I would say that the extension moves toward FLAT (that means it is moving toward flexed) during the backswing, and then flexion increases as early as necessary in the start down. This flexion DOES NOT need to be some enormous amount, just enough to square the face and strike the ball well.

..it’s funny but if you follow what Bradley Hughes teaches and what Hogan used to do and Steve Elkington etc you absolutely must get the club head to the left of the shaft on the backswing, then at impact you rotate the forearms clockwise and down onto the ball, oh well ….so there are many ways to swing a club successfully and so it is impossible for a beginner to navigate KZbin instruction even though they all have good intentions, oh well ..ideally there would be different systems which you would choose and stick to, eg the Hogan system or The modern system etc, that way you wouldn’t be mixing them all together, oh well

Well, my opinion of rolling the face open is that it can be deadly. However, we must always keep in mind that "what works, is right!" But it must work!
