When I was a stationed in Yugoslavia my section painted " Gotta keep the dogs away " on the side of our M113 cos some guy bought a bootleg tape of this in a near by town we thought it was funny here we came all this way and here was this quirky Canadian band a little taste of home and much needed humour in a rather humour less place Thank you THOR!!!!

@@distortiontildeafness I thought he was Canadian, but, he may be American. I know there were Americans as part of the NATO "Peace Keeping" forces, don't know about Canadians, though. How was Yugoslavia sabotaged, and by who? I thought the various people wanted to divide into their own countries when the Iron Curtain fell?
@distortiontildeafnessАй бұрын
@varanid9 there was outside influence in the conflict. NATO presence itself affirms there. Americans and canadian were involved wanting to see Yugoslavia split. Canadians provided war materials and Americans were a lot direct. They stoked the flames of culture war between the nations so they could see another socialist country fall and also as an opportunity to sell artillery and ammunition like in a lot of regional conflicts. Let's not forget America is top dog in war industry

Well she was asking about Muscle metal lol. But yea definitely Manowar, Thor has almost a decade on them. So he's definitely the originator. I've been a fan since the 80s as a kid. I am Thor was amazing. Not sure if you've seen it.
@johnoneil37378 жыл бұрын
I was talking similarity in look and sound, not influence. It's subjective, but all in all, I think Manowar is more similar to Thor in look and sound than are The Misfits and Danzig. The chronology is Thor 1973-1987 1997-now. Misfits forms 1977. Manowar forms 1980. Danzig forms 1987. Manowar is one of the first American bands with a strong NWOBHM influence--that same NWOBHM influence would also shape Thor's sound in The Unchained and Only The Strong albums. I would note that Thor's look evolved in the 80s in ways that make them more similar to Manowar's look, but there is no evidence of influence.

Just by going with the year of formation, Thor does predate Manowar by 7 years. Thor formed his original band in 1973 with pretty much the same concept, Manowar formed in 1980. This album came out in 1977, which is 5 years before the 1982 date you quoted. I think Manowar came together pretty much independently of Thor, but they no doubt heard about him.
