I'm doing it the other way around. I've sat at a desk for 30 years and now at 45 I'm moved a physical work in arb and forestry. Climbing, cutting, woodland management and a bit of woodworking as a side thing. I'm going to try it all out and see what works for me. My logic is "use it or lose it" - if I continued to work at a desk I'd begin to wither away. My retirement plan is to do what I can do for as long as I can do it, and then when I cannot do it, do it a different way so I can keep doing it. Or I'll do something else.

As a chap once said ( I’m too old for this game ) … around 10 years ago we had to dig out a load of mature shrubs before topsoil and turfing … I’ve never known shrubs root down as they did . Luckily we had a chap with us who had a mini digger and he got them all out eventually.. even that struggled and he was a dab hand … he was 86 and I’ve heard he is still active .. 😮.. good to have a few strings in your bow .. thanks and have a good week ahead .. lots of hedges with thorns in our fingers 😢

Hello, don't know the laws in Wales, but I put my wife on my payroll, so it bumped up her pension, and gave me a good tax deduction. I am 76 so my advice is way out of date, but I bought gold coins, Krugger Rand, and the Mexican 50 peso. Bought and hold, so they went up a lot in value. But most importantly they are tax free. Perhaps not legally. But no one knows I have them, and I just periodically go sell a few. Many years ago, a company near my work went under. Nobody wanted those massive heavy old machines, so the owner gave them to me. i used my company to pay to move them and wrote it of my taxes. Stuck them in the back of my warehouse. When I sold the business, I hauled them to the metal recycler, and got a pretty penny for them. Cash in my pocket. At no cost to me. My goal was always to collect something I could sell for cash later in life. That was me, and as I said it was decades ago. Good luck to you.
