in my experience in Arizona is that if a chicken gets wet it's a death sentence it just the water will attract heat and just boil the chicken from the outside.

Having a couple of foot baths around helps a lot as well. A shallow container that they can get in and out of easily with some patio blocks inside the bottom. The cool blocks feels good on those really hot days.

I’d like to add our flock loved the mister today, 4 weeks in memphis without rain now. don’t put the mister in the coop or where they can get saturated with it, I just laid it in the yard and they walked through it occasionally, they love standing in water pans with ice, it seems their feet are the hottest part of their body. Or more like the way they shed excess heat is through their feet. Simply cooling down the air around you with a mist can be effective. ACV in their water has seemed to perk ours up a bit and they became more active since adding it. Adding exhaust fan to the coop tomorrow.

We've never tried using a mister. Most of ours don't really like getting wet. 😆

@@artofcreationhomestead obviously they wouldn’t want to get saturated, misting in the shade can lower the temp for a small area providing relief from the heat. Rooster booster electrolyte and probiotic mix in their water has shown great results as well. I also noticed they don’t like corn in the heat, I wonder why? Maybe the starchy content?

116 yesterday in central oregon. My chickens got watermelon.

Didn't know that about the corn/scratch, thanks. We're in the 5th month of temps about and just below 100°, since February which is NOT usual. (Northern California) good tip about the block of ice. Going to use that
