This is great. I have two Salcata. My male is 90 lbs and my female is 30 lbs. I built a shed outside inside a dog run that we have had for many years. I use heat lamps and a heating pad under each one. Amazing to watch them and give them attention. I'm going on six years now and they really seemed warm and happy. I put a door on it so when they want to get out they just push it open. I also have a big meat rabbit with them and all three get along. They say that the northern States are too cold. Well, you do this kind of stuff for them and they do well. Marysville, Washington

I just ordered that kind of heater for my 75 pound Sulcata but mine lays on it with straw on it with purple light in her shed. Runs 80' in her space. I found it Farm Innovators 89.00 shipped in 2 days! Perfect and well protected!

The warmer they are the more active they become. But of course watch its not too warm too. Such beautiful creatures.

Thank for the information. Great set up you got! I live California, I just got a 11 year old female sulcata in March 2020 and this is the first winter with me. I got her in a igloo dog house and a big heating pad with a ceramic reptile heat emitter inside my shop. I am about done with a 3 by 4 insulated in closure made out of wood.

Thank you for posting. I will be making my first warm house for Dude this winter (my sulcata). Everyone has these elaborate enclosures outside that they built out of wood and other materials by hand but I was looking for something more simple for our first winter outside together, you know? I want to make sure it's simple and and get it right and he is safe and we don't have any mistakes/problems. Next winter we can make a fancier house. Haha Your video opened my imagination on different things I could buy and different ways I could make a "one bedroom house" for Dude.

I’m glad I could help! Sulcatas are hardy tortoises so if you have mild winters then the heated doghouse should work fine!

Thank You for the information, Iam on the right path… My Sully is 6 years old and lives in Hayward California out door, my advice add some natural plants and an outdoor soaking pan ,,grass is always good 👍.. They love to climb on Rocks, mountains of dirt…even a large basking Rock….Iam a year into owning her(Myrtle)… rescued her and ridiculously spoil her… PS I didn’t see a humidifier , do you not use one?Can you talk Humidity on your next video

Great job but I’m in Northern Minnesota and my Sulcate is only 11 months old and 14 ounces. I rescued her in February and she was a whopping 4.4 ounces . I must be doing something right. This year I’m starting to build a new house on my farm . It should be completed in the fall of 2025 . A reptile room is in the plans with out door access for Ms. Max 🐢 Now to find her a friend Thank you

I was given a Sulcata and it's young according to it's size. I have it in garage but the temp is very cold in Hemet, CA at night. Spike is in a medium dog carrying case and the case is covered with 2 blankets. I still am concerned about the cold.

Cheech&Chong. REALLY? Lol. Our sulcata (Master Oogway) comes in every night to sleep. In the day, he goes out the dog door, then around 5pm he peeks in the back door, and comes right in, once I open it. He has a snack, sometimes a warm bath (every 5 days, or so), then goes into his cage, and spends the night directly on his warmer. We don't lock him in it, and he has the run of the house, but this is his preference. It's been 32 degrees at night in AZ, and he's been doing this since we rescued him nearly 5 years ago, when he was about a month old (he was dumped in our neighborhood). We have a fully fenced half acre for him to roam and graze on grass, sunbathe, etc. In the summer, we put him in his baby pool, although this year we'll probably build him a little fresh-water pond. I have 2 raised garden beds I'm growing some goodies in for him. He's quite large now, and I can no longer pick him up, but my son still can, so that's helpful. We'll get one of those square wheel barrels to pick him up with once he gets too big. Thank you for sharing.

Can i use one of them dog creates inside? Would a heat mat be sutible? Sorry for all the questions. Last winter and the ones before he was able to live in a vivarium but now hes going on 4 hes getting big! Im worried and really need help to set him up during the winter months. I am in the Sacramento area and have a neighbor with a Sulcata. I am concerned about him and have been trying to supplement his diet and encouraging his owner to take care of him. They are feeding him lots of produce that is donated by the neighborhood, and I have gotten him some alfalfa. It seems that he is struggling and I don't know what to look for as to his health. His shell is rather flat and that concerns me. Am I crazy?

Thanks for the video. I have a question for you. It seems everyone (the so called professionals) gets all agro when they hear about two sulcatas living together. It's almost weird how hard they come down on you with all kinds of doom and gloom and "they're gonna die talk." Have you had any issues having two together as opposed to just one or three or more?

Yeah man I was actually waiting for someone to leave an angry comment about that lol it’s not ideal and near the beginning of fall they start to get a little aggressive with one another . But if you give them enough space it’s not that big of a deal . You just have to keep a close eye on them. It’s definitely better to only have 1 male and multiple females though

Thanks! I agree and understand. We have two hatchling (6 months 5.5 inches ) that we keep outside during the days (Hawaii) in a 5'×10' area, and bring them inside at night in a 3×5 area. They seem to do very well together. I'll obviously keep an eye on things, but I don't think the "no 2 Sulcatas" statement can be a blanket statement. I think it can work if it can work. If it doesn't, other things can be worked out.

Hi guys you both! I'm from Spain and winters temperatures in my area can drop down to 14⁰F. That's a lot to deal with. I have 3 females 20kg, 7kg and 5kg. The little one is having problems getting along with the other two in a 1m by 2m warm area builded out by bricks with access to the outdoor like in the video. One day the little one pissed off at the others felt like not entering in the warm house and she survived 25⁰F during one nigh... Yes... impressive but I was affraid she was dead, flabby and motionless but after 5 hours under heat alive. Now I''m trying to figure out what I'm gonna do the next winter to avoid an other incident like that. That's how I came across with your video 😉 Thank you . The way you keep yours separated in your yard looks great and enough to the weather you have there 👍but I guess I'll need to build something much more insulated for my little tortoise to stand those temperatures. I'm opened to any advice!

They’re not getting enough calcium. That causes the pyramiding.

He's caring for them well. However, they have pretty significant pyramiding. Lack of sunlight, humidity, and calcium is what causes a lot of that. I have a 3 year old Sully. I did so much reading, research, etc.. She had a major growth spurt, and it caused a very slight amount of pyramiding. We caught it time, and made the proper changes. :)

Lack of humidity during early growth is the MAIN contributor to pyramiding. Protein, calcium, and uvb have little to do with the actual pyramid effect.
