Great content. I love the level of detail that you provide and the helpful hints to avoid going down the wrong route. For me...I have a 2019 Raptor with King 3.0's front and back, Deaver +3HD (carry two spare tires and jack in the back), SVC UCA's, and bump stops in the rear. My truck originally had the stock live valved that worked decently. Thought about SDI upgrade on the factory live valves...but upgraded to factory race series shocks and the truck ran like garbage. I was able to return those shocks and went to the Kings. Took my truck out to Barstow and King (for free) re-valved my shocks and tuned them specifically for my truck and riding style. The shocks perform amazingly off road through whoops and jumps and pretty good on road. It's strange to go backwards on technology but I couldn't be happier with my results.
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad Жыл бұрын
Your experience is what everyone experiences man. There is no replacement for a properly tuned shock. kings keeps their design simple and when tuned to you setup right, you get the best performance. Wish Fox did the same, but they don’t and a tune session with the pros can get super expensive. But not everyone across the country will have access to king tuning days. And the next best system to really provide the best all around ride and max performance is Eclick. The stock algorithm and strategy to control the shocks is awful. Ford left a lot on the table and SDi taps into it like no one else
@cdogg22 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I’m in Vegas so the trip to Barstow for a tuning session is not too far. I got 2 years left on my Gen 2 warranty and will probably get a Gen 3 at that point. Will definitely consider the SDI E click system. It looks pretty amazing. But will probably steer clear of the Factory Race Series shocks unless something changes where they work good at all speeds w/ E click. Keep up the great video. I’m a big fan of your work.

My Gen 3 build goal was to increase offroad, onroad, & tow capabilities. So I am running the bucket up front and the Geisers in the rear with E-click on stock shocks. I always have my jack and Powertank and some other stuff in the back. I tend to offroad with a lot of weight and I also tow a trailer so the rear springs work well. I run the rear soft without adding load to make up for it. I can't believe how well it performs in all situations and everyone who rides with me are amazed! It sits 1/4 higher in the rear now that it is broken in. Thanks for the information that helped me make my decisions! Cheers!!

Limit straps can help. I’m hoping it’s just a defect in the metal. Because I’ve seen SDi test these in some of the worst trails in Johnson valley and SoCal over and over again. Baja is on another level of rough in some sections. So it can find the faults in anything.

My 2019 Gen 2 has 98,000 and it is completely stock. I have never rebuilt shocks. I am looking to keep a good ride on the rode with some off-road benefits and more control over the system as a whole. This is what I'm considering from SDI: E-Click System, Bucket Assembly & Revalve. While maintaining stock front springs and possibly new stock springs or LD dealers for the rear because mine are practically upside down and hop over even the smallest bump in the road now.
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad10 ай бұрын
You also need to a rebuild. Even with just street driving your well overdue for a rebuild. You could have the shocks rebuilt as part of the SDI re-valve. But based on what’s you’ve posted, I would not recommend it for you. They may be a little stiffer than you may want for road driving. We mainly recommend the revalve for the off-roader. So plan to have the shocks rebuilt before you install Eclick. Chances are they are leaking and you don’t have any nitrogen in them.

@KeepItDirtyOffRoad2 ай бұрын
No. You just need to talk to SDI and send in your ECU for them to reprogram. And that’s it. Once you have the latest load that matches your setup, it will get the optimum performance out of it. Without it, it will still work with the stock load. You just won’t be getting the maximum performance

We had a similar failure this year out west with a RPG adjustable collar set to second from max ring on a Gen 2 Super Cab (stock springs) where the shock also pulled out of the top hat. Failure wasn't as catastrophic however as shown in the video. The shock stayed in the hat luckly and was just moving around in it. This is after 65k miles on the truck, probably 1/4 of that hard off road miles...
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad Жыл бұрын
Do you know what the full preload was on that collar? We haven’t seen if the preload is limited to 2in, you should be fine. But there are collars out there that go higher and that’s where you start having problems

@KeepItDirtyOffRoad Жыл бұрын
We found in testing that it’s best to keep the suspension in normal and let the SDI system handle it. E click does adapt based on the mode the truck is in. But it performs at it best when the trucks suspension mode is set to normal.

Or maybe I should sell the Eibachs and get the top hat and a rear spacer? Definitely interested in getting the Eclick though.
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad4 ай бұрын
Yeah, you still have options. Limit straps could help big time in the event of a failure. But you can easily get carried away with what else you’ll want like bump stops up front or shock bucket reinforcement. Sometimes it’s easier to stay close to stock. And that’s where Eclick and the top hats shine. Regardless, as long as you don’t overdrive the truck, you will be fine in the meantime. It’s easy to get carried away with these trucks because they are so capable and fun. Just remember, it’s still a stock truck.

So what is the best bang for the buck Gen 1 supercab setup? I was leaning towards Gen 2 shocks with KHC buckets and Gieser springs, now you have me not sure what to do. Midwest off road at Silver lake sand dunes, two tracking and daily driving.
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad2 ай бұрын
Honestly, the best bang for you buck for the guy that mainly daily drives but wants a beast offroad is take off live valve shocks with the shock bucket upgrade and SDI Eclick. Also make sure you plan for rear Deavers and bump stops. All together is just about the same cost as FRS shock all around and will give you a ton more capability.

Looking at putting gen2 shocks on a gen 1 with bucket conversion. Would you still recommend stock gen 2 springs with sdi top hat? How do you think the gen2 spring would do handling the added weight of the 6.2l?
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad Жыл бұрын
I still recommend them. The difference in weight between the 2 engines is like 200lbs. Most of the extra weight of the gen1 comes from the use of steel over aluminum. So the performance will be very similar and the Eclick system will compensate for the rest. So Eclick with the top hat, and gen2 live valves and the shock bucket conversion will transform the truck. If you want a bit more headroom for the weight you could look at the tube as well and that will help. And finally if you want even more headroom look at FRS live valves. Just keep in mind the limitations of the back end that wakes up at higher speeds
@levisawyer Жыл бұрын
Do you recommend installing bump stops on the rear with the live valve or is it not needed? I already have the icon springs on the rear.

I have a 2017 more on road and doing some occasional off road. Currently have a collar to level the truck. Will i benefit if go with a sdi top hat and go e click? Cush ride is what i'm after for on road and keep the truck capable for off road
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad6 ай бұрын
Yes if you replace the collar you will. 1 it’s less preload for similar height so you keep the springs softer rate. And 2nd Eclick will improve the trucks ride. Way less body roll. It will sit more level and ride smoother overall. And then when you need it, tap the trucks full potential offroad.
@barrthom6032 ай бұрын
how would you recommend getting proper ride height on a Gen 1 once you do spring buckets up front on Gen 2 live valve shocks? I have a buddy that just put Eibachs on his Gen 2 with live valve and its horrible off road, thing is a pogo stick up front. I dont want that. I was looking at SDI top hats and running stock front Gen 2 springs on front of the Gen 1. What would you do if you were doing a 2010 supercab 5.4l Raptor?
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad2 ай бұрын
That’s my go to recommendation these days. Spring upgrades are way too stiff and can cause damage overtime. Preload using collars or the top hat replacement is the best option even for the heavier gen1 front end

So you made a comment about the truck needing balance, I currently have FRS 3.0's in the front and in the rear I have stock suspension with Geiser springs. The truck is a little too raked currently, on top of your point you made me realize about the suspension needing to work together with the computer. I'm wondering what I should do. Just install FRS 3.0's in the rear? Go back to stock rear springs with other modifications? Do I also need the SDI tophat in the front? I think an obvious answer is to pick-up rear 3.0's, but else? Will this setup be ok with all around FRS 3.0's and rear Geisers? Whats best?

So it depends. If you plan to keep it stock, get the 37s package. The little bit of extra height and slightly better shocks with warranty support are worth it even though you loose a little bit of travel. If you plan to upgrade and go wild, save your money and get the 35 model. You’ll be replacing the shocks and suspension anyways so why take on the extra cost.

So like I say in the video, what is your focus for the truck? Is it your daily and want to maintain that Cush ride but still offroad? OR do you want to build it as an off-roader? SDI Eclick is the only way to get the best of both worlds on a budget. On a Gen1 is does get a little more expensive because you need to source the shocks and the shock bucket. Shoot me a DM on Instagram if you want to go more back and forth and a quicker response. But the answer really depends on your use of the truck and being honest on your priorities with it

I haven’t. But not for lack of trying. I could do it on the front shocks. But not my rears. I’m running a full mid travel build and my rear shocks are race series 4.0s. The current valves being used do not support the amount of oil that flows through those shocks. SDI tried it and the preassure alone would open the valve. Need to wait till Fox releases larger valves from their race testing. But those are still a few years out. Only sponsored race teams can get those.

Im a firm believer that a vehicle should be property strapped. The shocks shouldn't be holding the weight of the suspension it should be a quality limit strap. Overtime the shocks are going to separate from use. However the springs are expediting the failure.

Yeah. There is a lot going on with these springs upgrades. And definitely don’t recommend them at all.

Can E click make my 2020 softer? It sounds like it can’t all it can do is add stiffness.
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad Жыл бұрын
What do you mean by softer? Softer on the road or softer offroad? Onroad you will get a flatter smoother ride with less jitter. Stock the truck tends to have a ton of body roll and is a little rough. With Eclick it will run more consistent and much smoother and will corner better with less body roll. Offroad, that’s a different story. Common misconception is that a more capable suspension is softer. It’s not, it is in fact stiffer and dampens the hits better so you don’t feel them as much. The beauty in the Eclick system is that I will respond faster and better than the stock setup. So it will stiffen instantly to soften a hit and then immediately soften to avoid rebounding and stiffen again to level you out. The goal being to run flatter. Yes you will still feel it. But it will be a lot smoother overall and you won’t be getting bounced around. The smoothest ride onroad will be maintained if you keep the stock springs without any other modification.
@johnheath4305 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply I feel like I need to read this 100 more times before I understand. One baseline fact that seems to emerge about the e-click is that it works on top of the raptor modes, so it can’t be any softer than the softest mode which I think is “normal“ is that fair? Maybe “rock crawl”is the softest mode?
@KeepItDirtyOffRoad Жыл бұрын
Softest mode on the Raptor is normal. Even in rock crawl the system restricts flow. In all version of the systems (gen2-3), Eclick takes over control of the shocks. So you can run smoother in any mode. The modes do have some impacts on Eclick, but not on suspension control. Things like throttle response and stuff like that impacts Eclick because it’s always trying to keep you running flat. Slam on the gas’s and it will stiffen the back end. Hard brake and it will stiffen the front shocks. Now as far as a smooth ride, the Eclick system will get you a smoother ride than stock. Because like I said the stock setup is very jittery with a ton of body roll that adds to the perception of a rough ride. Eclick will reduce body roll and instantly react to bumps and obstacles making for a smoother ride. No the shocks are not softer, but the algorithm Eclick uses will make the truck feel smoother.
