My boat rolls like nobody's business downwind. I'm envious of how well that old Westerly handles that point of sail. And my tiller pilot doesn't like downwind either, it can't hold a course downwind at all. Your trip looked like bliss.

Lovely part of the world. Happy memories of cruising up and down the Sound of Mull and nearby waters, under Diesel power, on the MV Harry Slater out of Oban, diving the wrecks and rock features in the day and drinking int he Mishnish at night. No more beautiful place on a good day. Thanks for sharing.

That place made me think about the St-Lawrence past Quebec city or the Saguenay river. Majestic places! Keep on turning left. I have been following your journey for many years and I still love it. :-)

whats the "hispana wreck" bouy? just to mark a shallow wreck hazard?
@mikefule6 жыл бұрын
The Sound and the waters in that area are littered with shipwrecks and it is a popular diving destination. A lot of the popular dive sites are permanently marked, partly to make them easy to find, and partly to make them easy to avoid. Some of the wrecks come within a metre of the surface. Others are too deep to be a problem, but are sometimes swarming with dive boats for an hour or so of slack water in the tide cycle.

The way geology affects the trip is interesting: east coast = lots of rivers, marshes, estuaries, interesting city centers and anchorages; west coast, rugged and fewer city centers, smaller villages?
@KeepTurningLeft10 жыл бұрын
Wade Tarzia UK is a big tilted plate - mountains to the west - flatlands to the East - with a few exceptions. Glaciation did some sculpture work.A modest knowledge of geology is a marvelous thing to help undeerstand a landscape

The video is surely interesting but the quality of the image is not as your usual one. I can see pixellation. What went wrong?

Harold Stewart crappy old boat - now sold for a smaller one. In retrospect she seems like a palace. But with all things sailing .... the view from the cockpit is as good from a dream machine as it is from an old tub
