Keep Your Daydream, years ago when I arrived at work with our new 2012 Ford F-250 Diesel King Ranch the head of maintenance came out and was saying how nice the truck looked, etc. he then asked what kind of puppy I picked out at the dealer. I gave him a strange looked and he then explained that Ford always give a new puppy with their new trucks... that way you have some company when you break down. 😂😂

Keep Your Daydream Truck Joke....sure The latest feature on the new 2020 Ford Super Duty is a heated tailgate, it keeps your hands warm when you are pushing it through the snow. The last 10 pages on the Ram owner’s manual list repair shop and rental car agencies addresses and phone numbers. GM trucks are some of the safest trucks on the road, the reason is that they are usually being towed by a tow truck so the tow truck take the brunt of the impact.

I thought your impromptu tow vehicle analysis was interesting and not typically what I see. I live in horse country in Aiken SC so my tow truck decision was based on similar observation. I observed that the horse people pulled their horse trailers with mostly Ford or Dodge/Ram trucks. I saw very few Chevy trucks and a few more GMC trucks. So I concluded that those two brands were the ones to look for as a tow vehicle. If the horse people used them for their expensive horses they would be good enough for me. I ended up with a Dodge 2500 mainly because it was less expensive. Love your channel keep up the good videos!

Hello KYD go to a Caterpillar dealer and get 1U9891 hydraulic oil additive. I’ve been working on hydraulic systems for 40 years and been working with Caterpillar for 30. This additive works great. Not snake oil. Helps your cylinders move in and out when side loaded from unlevel terrain.

We have auto level on our Newmar. Not a fan always raises the coach too much. We level as much as we can with Hosspads under tires first then manual level with hydraulic jacks. It allows us to extend the jacks way less. Takes an extra few minutes, but it’s better overall. Glad you didn’t damage the jacks. Izzy

Sorry to see the panic, but boy do I feel good that I'm not the only one! :) I'm really glad it worked out and nothing was damaged! This exact situation happened to my wife and I; I had the wheel blocks in (we use the ones that crank down and apply force between the tires) and started leveling the rig when all of a sudden the entire thing started rolling downhill, stabilizers sliding across the ground making a terrible noise. I was standing there in utter shock watching it roll away - I thought we had lost the trailer for sure. Somehow it finally stopped and we got it hooked back up to the truck and put into a better spot. Nowadays I use *both* kind of wheel chocks, the ones that block the wheels on the ground and also the ones that go between the tires. Oh the stories we can tell from experience on the road... Thanks for the video!

About the wheels off the ground, when I started working as an RV technician I helped prep new units straight from the manufacturer. We check everything to try to find as much wrong before it's sold, including everything that goes through the 7-way connector to be sure it's safe to drive. I asked someone what do you do when auto leveling and the wheels lift off the ground. He said, "Check the brakes before it goes back down!"

Whoo yeah, off the ground, we learned that one too. Luckily we didn't move. I walked by and thought gee those tires don't look like they're on the ground.... give a push.... oh MY GOSH... they spin. Talk about freaking out. If that had rolled it would have gone right into Lake Superior. We put those stick-on levels on the front, just jump out of the truck see how far off we are and if we can put in in a different spot on the site to get level or get the ole Lynx levelers out and throw a row or two under the tires always be for hitting that auto level. RVing where even something you've done 1000 times before can come up and get ya one day. Always something new to learn. Happy trails!

Hint: Always level rig left and right with wheel blocks/lifts !! This is true with all trailer/5thWheel/etc.
@normparrott30555 жыл бұрын
Hey Marc. I always chock the wheels with rubber chocks on the "high side" of an un-level site. That way if the wheels do lift, it's the ones on the other side. I do use a board(s) if there is more than a couple of inches difference. I always use an x-chock on both sides as well. Also use 6" blocks under the front jacks so they don't have to extend so far- less extension, more stability I think. Another great video!
@johnrussell84105 жыл бұрын
Norm: Roger on the blocks. I use them under all my jacks. As stated, the stability issue is somewhat reduced due to shorter extensions of the jacks. But as importantly, should I completely disregard my check list and do a "Homer Simpson" and move the truck, the probability of jack bend is significantly reduced. Finally on really really un-level sites, I have extras to stack on the low side. When in doubt about stability, keep the trailer chained to the truck and if possible hitched to the truck.

Did the board thing for years to level side to side. With the triple axle it's a pain because not only is the board like 8' long to store/handle, but you have to pull up 10'. It's hard to judge the angle the trailer will turn over 10' if your truck isn't straight and we'd always end up with the back tires not centered on the board. Now we just use levelers. Pull up 8 inches instead and place 1 or 3 levelers behind each tire then back up 8 inches. Keeps you out of the roadway most of the time too. Plus levelers are cheap, light and take up less space. Although I'll admit we bought the cheap yellow ones and the heavy rig smashes them up a bit in rocks.

Another great video. I carry some 2x12x12 and 6x6x14 rough cut larch lumber pieces to block up the landing gear so it doesn’t extend too far out. The wood also sinks and bites into the ground... especially on grass ..helps to stop it from sliding.

Ignore the trolls lol. So much hate going around. I'm glad you guys are willing to share your lessons and be vulnerable as it is helping someone like me who hasn't gone RV'ing yet but is going to here in a few weeks.

I know I’m late to the party, it’s Feb. ‘20 wanted to say -awesome video!! Great info, delicious looking food and when my 2020 Forest River is ready to be replace, I’ll sell a kidney and move into the Grand Design neighborhood. That rally- just wow. A pit crew of techs swoop in addition to the issue at hand, lets check out the entire rig while we’re here. That my friends is quality service after the sale.

One board per bubble when off side to side(Each bubble is about 1 1/2 inch). Have to use about 4 on my TT at my land. As a part timer, I drain the hot water tank after we get back from a trip. Our tank does no have a anode to protect the tank.

Hey Mark and Trish, I thought about your leveling problem and had another alternative other than wood planks that are heavy and take up VALUABLE space. You might consider Andersen Leverer Blocks.. The will probable in most cases fix your level problem and ALSO double as a Chock !! Two birds with one stone. Thanks for all the videos, keep up the good work. Kim Newton, 40ft Montana in Georgia !!

Mark first I would like to say that my wife and I love to camp and you and your family are the main reason that we will be heading cross country multiple times in the near future. But now on a more serious note. Watch the video at 10:07-10:08 and right by your marker light by the door you can see the side panel move and hear a noise at the same time. Just thought you might want to check that area a little closer in case you missed it. Again thank you for your inspiration. We never miss an episode.

I agree. The video did not portray how unbelievable scary it was to have an RV that big move toward us. In fact, had that right arm bent, it could have come crashing down. Very lucky and I won't come close to making this mistake again. It's actually at the dealer now getting a few items updated and they will check the entire system.

I have just found your channel, and you guys are fun to watch. I will introduce you and your videos to my fiancé tonight. We are on the search for a fifth wheel. We really like the Solitude 💕 with the kitchen in the rear elevation. We have never had an RV before. We do not plan on traveling yet, but we will live in it full-time as my fiancé runs a business about 15 miles away and I do the books and scheduling for that business from our home. We hope to have this fifth wheel very soon and hope to be living in it by July 1.

Pro tip for preventing water heater showers: Close the T&P relief valve before removing the anode rod or plug. The water will only dribble out because it doesn't have the air behind it. Once you're clear of the blast zone, open it up again to drain faster. For newbies too, 1 1/16 socket for anode rods, 15/16 socket for plugs. Also, did I miss the EZ Pass you mentioned on your video last week? I was curious what you went with.

Thank you. The first day with our 32' Reflection the leveling system lifted both wheels off the ground. With only 4 levelers, I was concerned with carrying the weight of the entire suspension system instead if it actually supporting the trailer. I hadn't thought about the trailer moving. I put cheap level bubbles on the back and side. Based where the bubble is we know how much leveling to put under the tires in one try.

Marc, instead of using wood to drive on did you ever think of using the Anderson Levelers? They are made of HD plastic and can raise up to 4". You would need three of them, I use them on my double axle toy hauler they also lock the tires in place at the same time. Just an idea..
