Let's say sound can be fitted in an histogram; the KEF shows a better balanced distribution throughout the bass, mids and highs so it sounded more natural. The BnW however shows an elevation at the bass and highs. Although the bass and highs are at superior quality, due to the elevation it sounds like listening to separate tracks at one time.

@tharbamar, we are currently listening to this demo through a 15k Marantz-KEF system, and there is no contest for us: the LS50 sounds more fun and the bass is just amazing in detail and speed. Those vocals are like night and day with the KEF being much more clear. The Bowers and Wilkins sound dull here, with a much sloppier bass. Overall it sounds also way slower. With the ls50 we were all jamming here. Then came the other and it was boring. Of course, there is only so much that you can catch though here, but I’m sharing our impressions, and I think a general idea of how speakers sound are possible through these demos, especially when compared to speakers you know well, and this is the case. Thank you for sharing. Great job.

now that you've mentioned it--- I listened to it again and confirmed, while the ls50 was warmer, the bass indeed sounds faster than the B&W despite the latter having the more treble/lively side.

My experience with B&W speakers is the 685 S2 and what i really liked about it was the soundstage which was very big, you could hear where each instrument was in the soundstage, the highs were also nice and detailed. The mids and especially vocals sounded a bit congested to me. I now have the KEF LS50 and it’s a lot better in the mids, vocals sound great on them and the imaging is awesome, it does have a smaller soundstage and also the highs aren’t as airy either but they are still superior to the 685 S2. In this video i think that the 706 sounds bright and forward but also it sounds more open and airy which is nice compared to the LS50, the LS50 however seems more smooth and easy on the ears and also more natural because it doesn’t have a boost in the upper frequencies like the B&W. The piano part sounded better on the B&W because it handled busy parts better while the LS50 had worse separation between instruments making it sound a bit more messy. It’s difficult to really understand how they sound in real life from a video but the sound signature seems obvious.

I love the build quality and minimalism of the black ls50s. compared them to the metas and it's nothing at all worth getting excited about. they changed the tuning a tiny bit dropping the crossover to 2.1 which is all I really heard and that was really more of a subjective thing playing on the expectancy effect to get you to presume they're better. the black velvetine ones are still the ones to have especially if you've got a pj theater, those things just soak in light versus reflecting it everywhere

The 706 has more of a sparkle from the top end of the mid section into the highs. In my opinion at least on this song the LS50'S still has even more of a seamless balance and superior musicality that comes alive from it's well blended all around performance. The Kef is still better. I wouldn't replace it with the 706's.

I tested both loudspeakers for a couple of weeks and for my ears was much better KEF and bought those. B&W was good, but they had not so big soundstage. The video gives not the right sound and there is a echo, but the music and reviews are still good and thank you for the channel!

They both sound extremely clear and satisfying! Sharp, piercing highs/treble. The b&w seem to sound a little cleaner because to me, some of that mid bass seems to be a little lower on them, vs the LS50's, which seem to have a little bit more mid bass, giving it a slightly fuller, SLIGHTLY less clear sound. But the LS50's definitely have slightly more body/presence because of this. I'm a b&w fan, but my initial thought after listening is that the LS50's sound more satisfying. It's super close tho!

Besides, the rest of your equipments are major factors, too! Overall though, the basic sonic signatures of both brands are somewhat similar-- 'British sound'-- which is my personal preference. At the end though, tastes varies from person to person, which is fine.
@ichigobankai23435 жыл бұрын
Most people don't realize that when one reduces the midrange output the bass and treble become more prominent. The B&W's sound like a V shaped frequency response where the bass and treble are higher then the midrange. The Kefs could also have a tad bit too much midrange that is why it can sound like it has some mid bass bloom. If Kef lowers the midrange a tad bit by a few DB it would sound better. If the B&W raised there midrange a tad bit by a couple db it could sound better.
@Tharbamar5 жыл бұрын
Yes it is true in most case but bass tightness, definition and faster low frequency response will be hard to reproduce for LS50. Highs are easy to control than low frequencies in any space, even in live performance. Mid range is base on individual preference, most of British design small speakers tend to have more forward mids than actual music. Thanks
@ichigobankai23435 жыл бұрын
@@Tharbamar There was another video of comparing the Kefls50 to the kefls50w and the wireless with the use of (fancy name for equalizer) DSP he says the bass is better and tighter and will beat the original Kefs any where you put it. This just further proves my point of lowering mid can change the sound of the bass making it tighter. Even lowering the treble can change the sound of the bass. Now I am not saying they will sound exactly like each other but by lowering certain peaks and adjusting frequency response you can make them sound "BETTER".
@haomingyang32453 жыл бұрын
After hearing them for a several times I would still choose LS50. B&W has better separation, natural and less congested, but the only flaw is too emphasized on the treble which is really fatiguing to my ears. Also it's U curved, bass response is better, mid range neutral and slightly laid back, articulate but not as full as the LS50. The imaging is much better on LS50 when off-axis. LS50 in comparison, has the mids more forward (elevated at 2k-5k Hz), more colored, warm and full, while the treble is smoother, not as harsh as the B&W. With a subwoofer or the wireless version with dsp, I would be more enjoying with LS50 for music.

For me the b&w just has too much treble, its funny how people always say the ls50's are bright when these b&w's sound much brighter to my ears
@Justwantahover4 жыл бұрын
Yes they do seem to have more treble. My speakers are bright and I prefer the more treble B&W but the KEFs have more control in the med (I reckon). The organ on the B&Ws is colored and a bit muddy compared to the KEFs organ sound. There seems to be a gap in the treble/med on the B&Ws, compared to the KEFs. The organ lacks texture yet there is good high treble output, whereas the KEFs are a bit muffly for me (only right up top). And the B&Ws are muffly in the voice and organ.

B&W sounds more natural to me and more present in the room. Kef is too warm, sounds far away and distant, I do not engage with the music with the Kef. Thanks.

LS punches sounds much more muddled-mixed, B&W much more definition between instruments

Kef have a full Sound. BW Sounds thin and no life. I prefer kef. Less resolution, more life.

You seem to equate "life" with "rounded, warm sound". It's not a bad sound at all, but it does not define "life" in sound. And I hope the comparison isn't based on how you heard it on this video.

Kef make make me tapping my feet like literally. My heart also moves.d Damn; the magic window opened. Had trhe front end system properly tuned to make the soundstage looks like the b&w while keeping the layering, i would be spellbounded.

The Kefs distort a lot with low power amps, I have them and they need power to resolve.
