Makris Gialos Beach - Costa Costa beach bar in Lassi - 15:38 12. Myrtos beach - We didn’t go down to it but I had to show it from above as its one of the most famous beaches in Greece!! If we had a car, we would have driven down to it. - 16:58 13. Pedal boat ride in Argosoli - 17:25 14. What travelling by bus around the island is like - 18:09 We stayed on Kefalonia island the first week of July 2018, we feel it’s one of the most beautiful islands we’ve been on, breathtaking scenery and quite a chilled island too. In 1953 most of the island was devastated by a large earthquake however, much of the north escaped it. All prices mentioned are based on what we paid July last year, so they may differ but it’s just to give you an idea. Plus, please excuse and spelling mistakes I have dyslexia and I sometimes overlook mistakes. We based ourselves in Lassi as the beaches are amazing there plus it’s close and within walking distance to the capital, Argostoli. If you are planning a trip to Kefalonia or you are wondering what it’s like then, I hope you enjoy and find my video interesting. We were there for one week so as you can imagine, we couldn’t cover all the island in that time. We hope to return one day very soon. Please ask any questions if you’re like to know more information. Take care, Claire x My review of using buses on the island: Traveling around Kefalonia by Bus This review is about how we managed to travel around Kefalonia in one week without a car and how good/bad the bus services are. We were based in Lassi the first week of July this year and found it to be an excellent base for our needs. We traveled all over the island on buses and beside one incident of a missed bus it worked out well. Argostoli is the capital and all bus links start from there. There’s around 3 bus stops in Lassi and the buses run every half past the hour from 9.30am onwards. It’s costs 1.50 euros and takes around 10 minutes. Stay on the bus until you get to the main bus stop. All the buses are lined up with numbers and destinations on them and also there’s sheets of paper with times and destinations by the side of each bus. There’s a big screen telling you times and buses and also there’s a fab tourist information inside with lots of timetables to take. I pre planned day trips before we arrived in Kefalonia by looking on the www.ktelkefaloniad.gr so I had times already worked out. Fiskardo and Assos only have around 2-3 buses running daily so pre planning is crucial and they don’t always run every day- the timetables will show you. Always arrive at least 15 mins before catching the bus as we left a few mins early on a few occasions. The bus stop in Argostoli is fine though. It’s a 2hr direct bus journey up to Fiskardo and I think there’s a 11am and a 3pm bus up and a 5pm return. It’s stunning seeing all the scenery, you go right up into the mountains but also you can see the coast aswell as other islands too, I loved travelling on bus for the scenery. There’s aircon, free wifi and they were never full when we went. To Agia Efimia there’s a direct bus routine too and I think that took around 1hr. Sami there’s a direct route also but if you wanted to go to Antisamos beach where Captain Corellis Mandolin was filmed, you would have to catch a mini bus from Sami. Melissani caves- we took a bus to Sami then caught another bus to Melissani and told the bus driver we wanted to go to the caves. He dropped us off by a big road sign of the caves on your right ( around 10 min drive away from Sami) and we walked up a short hill which is clearly signposted. It’s beautiful there and we arrived just before the hoards of crowds arrived (before 12pm - we caught the earliest bus) We were due to catch a mini bus back to Sami at 12.40pm but it didn’t turn up!!! So we found a gorgeous restaurant/bar near the water and had a drink and ordered a taxi. As there were 5 of us, my husband walked. It took him around 20-30 walking back to Sami and it cost us 8 euros in a taxi. We loved Sami the prices were so good too. Then we caught the big coach back to Argostoli at around 3pm. Although, you will see on the timetables that some times are in blue this means there might be a delay as the bus waits for a ferry to come in... we had to wait, around 45 mins. Assos you catch a bus from Argostoli which then stops at Divarata for a change over to a mini bus to take you down to Assos. I think there was only one bus there and one bus back. Assos was our favorite place, truly stunning. We took a towel and swimwear and went for a swim in a little bay the other side of the harbor, so so clear and calm, beautiful. The bus drops you off at the top of a hill which is around a 10 min walk but it’s a pretty walk down and up. We wanted to go to Myrtos beach but the bus times meant that we would be there for many hours which we didn’t want to do as I’d read it’s not great for swimming for children. We wanted to spend around an hour there but as we didn’t have a car, we couldn’t. But, we got to see it from above on the bus journeys a few times which was nice. Fiskardo is a must, it’s your traditional Greek fishing village with beautiful quirky alleyways and brightly colours houses, lots of yachts and ferries come in and crowds come off and head to the harbour side restaurants but if you carry on walking past them all you will find a much prettier spot with a fab restaurant called Panormos. It overlooks the sea and houses and not bad prices too. We did a lot around Argostoli too, we all loved going over to Lixouri on the ferry which leaves at the first bus stop into Argostoli and leaves every hour I think. We also got to see lots of turtles in the harbour in the mornings. The cost of buses were very good, short trips were 1.50 Euro and the most we paid was to travel to Fiskardo (a 2hr journey|) which cost 6.40 Euro. We packed in a lot but if we had extra time, we would have loved to go to Ithaka, explore more around Lixouri area, and maybe go to Poros and Skala and Dogerati caves. We will return one day

I traveled a lot in my life and i can tell you that it’s the most beautiful place in the world. Beautiful, clean and safe. Simply amazing. Absolutely zero crime, you can be alone or with company and go anywhere you feel like it, day evening or night. Asos is my favorite spot, breathtaking. Was there a number of years ago for a two week break, it was one of the most lovely places I have been too including many Greek islands, the history the scenery the people were fab. Even had a little earth tremor to talk about when we came home. The only downside was when we took a coach trip up to Fiscardo, I was crapping myself sitting at the window seat on the bus looking down at a thousand foot drop to the sea. Made sure I was sitting at the other side of the bus on the way back. Bought The film Captain Corelli as soon as we came home.

Debs S aw you’re very welcome 😉 Kefalonia besides the beauty, Is a very chilled island, definitely a lovely place to visit for a first time abroad holiday. Flights from UK are reasonably priced too which is good. I got married in Cyprus -Greek part of the island and have been there 5-6 times, we love it!! Best place to go this time of year, not too hot for the kids 😁 My husband and I went to Santorini for my 40th birthday a few years ago and hired a car for the week. It was hard getting used to driving on the other side of the road but we did ok. But, I don’t think we would ever hire a car again on a Greek island haha the ones we’ve been on have scary roads! But yeah, buses are fab thankfully, just close your eyes when you go around corners!!! Haha xx

We’re going for our 4th time next month. It’ll be our 2nd visit to Skala. The one thing we do every year is captain Makis boat trip from Argostoli harbour. Sounds cheesy I know. We’ve been all over Spain and various other med destinations and Kefalonia is top of the list. Kleftiko virtually every night and I come back about a stone heavier. A magical place though!!!!

This video is lush. It reminded me a lot of the Algarve. Places like island of Tavira. Vila real de Santo António, Albufeira... you don’t need to swim with your sandals in there 😂. Thanks I’m going on holiday tomorrow and can’t wait 😊

We haven't got a car and we are staying in Svronata so will use the buses or taxi as there are 4 of us. Are the bus prices one way ? Looking forward very much, thanks again.

My wife and I found Kefalonia 20+ years ago (the resorts, now have pavements and there's tarmac on the roads). We fell in love with this island and returned twice a year. Feeling guilty, we thought that we should try other countries. Waste of money, when you find your paradise why go anywhere else. Lassi is the resort for us, (10 minutes from the airport), it's on the opposite side of a peninsula to Argostoli (the capital). From Lassi, you can walk OVER the peninsula to Argostoli in 15+ minutes OR walk AROUND the peninsula (mostly along the sea) in 2 hours. I could go on forever........by the way, your only a ferry away from mainland Greece....how adventurous are you? We drove to Athens and the island of Skiathos.

I’m looking for a quiet village on a quiet island in Greece. Assos looks nice - do you have any experience with less traveled islands?
@Diaryofabeautygeek Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not, I would have to take a ferry to them which is something I want to do in a few years time. Out of all the islands I’ve been too, I’d say Kefalonia it’s quiet and the prettiest island - Santorini is unique and wow and the villages truly beautiful but Kefalonia has a stunning landscape. We were there in July and was surprised how quiet it was around the island. I think most people head to Corfu or Zante close by but I think from what you’ve said, Kefalonia might suit your needs x

Hi.. thanks for sharing this video. Probably the only video where one has travelled in local busses. Can you share how and where we can find the time tables. Are the time tables reliable? Thanks for your answer
@Diaryofabeautygeek5 жыл бұрын
Pruthvi Khamithkar hi there, here’s a review I wrote...... Traveling around Kefalonia by Bus This review is about how we managed to travel around Kefalonia in one week without a car and how good/bad the bus services are. We will return one day

sarena norwood Not the buses but In the hotel we stayed in - Mediterranee Lassi, there was lifts in the building and a ramp,lift and steps down to the beach where there was a cafe etc there’s a 3 minute hill walk from the hotel up to the Main Street. If I were you, I would go onto Tripadviser Kefalonia forum online and ask there, there will be people living on Kefalonia and more able to advise you hopefully xx
