I went to Gilli Trawagan in 1992. There were six families of straw huts. All were raised on stilts from the sane. Gilli Meno and Air were both uninhabited. So Trawangan was it. I stayed at the most left-hand clutch of huts. Each hut had six/seven feet of the wooden ladder up to the hut. A single light bulb inside, and a wooden bed, with no bedding. That was it! All the huts, along the beach were the same. None had water inside. Each group of huts belonged to the person at the back of the beach. There was a communal shower area. There was ONE shop selling cookies and sweets and boiled eggs, and one shop renting snorkels. Some cafes, no wifi, no internet. A single phone somewhere. It was a rumour that Air had a golf resort planned and everyone was talking about how it would be ruined. I will never go back. I had the best time. The sand was soft, and very white. I could tell it wasn't going to last long. And now there's Starbucks and livestreams and probably a yoga class.
