This video is a DiY tutorial on the installation of the Kein Fabrication (aka KEIN FAB) Fender Brace Kit on my 1998 Subaru GC8 / 2.5RS. The KEIN FAB Fender Brace Kit reduces body flex and makes the chassis more rigid, which results in a car that handles better and feels more responsive in the corners.

This video is part of a "Build Series" (see "Playlists" tab for all videos) for my 1998 Rally Blue Pearl RSTi Coupe (Impreza 2.5RS swapped with a EJ205 turbo engine), which is 1 of only 720 sold in the USDM for 1998. This RSTi Build has come a long way and includes a full archive of videos documenting how to: (1) Pull a EJ-series turbo engine, (2) Replace the head gaskets, (3) Add key upgrades to increase long-term reliability, and (4) Restore the interior to OEM specifications.

JDM GC8s come with fender braces standard. They're simple, tubular braces, but there they are, on my V5 Type RA V Ltd, and a V4 RA that a mate owned, anyway.

Good vid. Luke. Effective modification. I grew up in the UK, and I know them as 'wings'. But now I live in Australia and they call them 'guards' - an abbreviation of mud-guard. The etymology of 'fender' is fire-guard. And yes it is 'Pedders' - an Australian after-market suspension specialist. But I had An AE 102 Corolla with Pedders parts and a front spring BROKE. This would not happen with OEM Toyota part. I did drive it with a broken spring on the bump stop, though.

Thanks for the video. I've had a pair of used Paranoid Fabrications fender braces sitting in my garage for several years but have not had the courage to tackle the job. After seeing your video I feel ready to do it. These Kein braces are incredible.

You were right, there is also a bolt underneath the side skirt, that bolts to the frame. Probably missing in your car. Edit: didn't wait for the part you found it! :p

edit: Just got my Kein and looks like (10mm 1.25 thread pitch x 30mm) Did it seem like the thread pitch for the extra bolts were the same as the factory door bolts ..

did you have any trouble with putting the fenders back on? lots of people report these type of braces hitting on the fender from the inside and creating bumps/dimples visible from the outside

Visually they look very flat. Some older type fender braces were taller, the piece of cut pipe type especially, and people were having issues with very little space between brace and sheet metal. I think he'll be good.

I bought these (see link below) at a junk yard a few years back and never put them on. They are tall especially on the sides where the pipe is welded to a vertical piece of metal. No trouble at all. Fender is back on and nothing touches, but after seeing this comment I checked and there is one spot that’s very very close - feels like only a few millimeters of a gap. But definitely isn’t touching.

Ive currently got an ej207 short block im going.to build to fit into my 98 but first need to remove tje ej20 to get heads off and machined to go on tje new block so your channel is helping through the steps of my rebuild thanks again for your hard work and sharing your knowledge

Grade 8 implies a standard thread. This car has metric Fasteners, loolk for decimal values like 8.8 / 10.9 /12.9 instead
