Sugar tax needs to go or be reformed. They (the drinks companies) are just loading up their drinks with sweeteners, which actually RAISE blood sugar levels. It's done wonders for dental health, but is absolutely ruining gut health. That's more likely that dental stats have dropped given the severe lack of NHS dentist places. There's many more crohns and colitis diagnoses over the last 10 years since the sugar tax was introduced. They're horrendous chemicals and taste terrible.

During Parliament, there is only a certain amount of time to debate and introduce legislation. The Conservative Party has been attempting to push through large volumes of legislation, including an attempt by Jacob Rees-Mogg to bypass Parliament for all British laws with links to the European Union. Labour's only choice, given that certain Tories wish to salt the earth, is to focus on a limited number of crucial policies and leave fixing the damage being inflicted by the right wing of the Tory party on the people until later.

And most of all, what are their plans on how to tackle the cause of homelessness and social issues. They need something in place to keep people from becoming homeless. Also, what are their plans to deal with mental illness, as there has been a few unfortunate incidents were people haver lost their lives due to being attacked by mentally ill people who were not properly supported. Why do interviews always want to ask a questions and then talk over the answers? Will interviewers fix the country, or leaders of political parties diametrically opposed to the current government? Individuals in focus groups will have views, Starmer will have the ability to change things. Changes in behaviour is important, and letting Starmer answer is an important behaviour. At the dispatch box Starmer asks the prime minister’s questions, Sunak doesn’t answer just leans towards Starmer points his finger at him and tells blatant lies. Which one of the focus groups asked about football manager analogies. Even then he was interrupted whilst giving his answer, he isn’t thinking about which football manager he’s like, he’s thinking about doing the right thing for the U.K.

The only thing that the Tories have impressed me with is support for Ukraine. Britain has consistently made others look like bickering fools by stepping up with support at the right time. The attitude towards Putin is a standout, and I would actually break the habit of a lifetime and vote against Labour if I sense any hesitation by them because it is so important for our children's futures. I do not want my kids in a War with Russia in a few years because Putin was allowed to butcher Ukraine. Labour needs to ditch the romantic socialists who still sympathize with some silly idea about Russia. Any weakness or backing down now will spell disaster.

@aidandesilva
@aidandesilva 3 ай бұрын
To offer another perspective, we obviously have an issue with obesity/health in this country (as with alot of western economies like UK, US); but wouldn't it be true that a sugar tax would disproportionally hurt those with less money to spare? Sugar is an addiction in our culture and I don't entirely disagree with the idea of a sugar tax but people hooked on the sweets and snacks also probably fixate on the cheaper options available. I'd sooner see this in conjunction with a way to support making fruit and veg more accessible/affordable for people on the lower end of the income spectrum. I personally believe that cooked meals end up net cheaper but it's a known fact that people closer to the poverty line aren't cooking healthy meals as often. Given that a sugar tax would just be passed onto consumers i'm not sure how it can be said that he's "in the pocket of sugar producers".

@@aidandesilva The "in the pocket " comment was stated as an opinion. Sugar, like tobacco, is an addiction. I don't know if the tax on tobacco has been successful in reducing smoking but again "I would hazard a guess" that it has. If Starmer is serious about the dental problems of children then why not impose everything that will help and why was he so quick to react against the tax. I 100% agree with you on the encouragement to promote healthy cooking etc but alongside the discouragement of sugar.
@aidandesilva
@aidandesilva 3 ай бұрын
how exactly are they being punished and how does it affect their day to day can you elaborate? To give an example - I support more taxing on wealth/assets. It "punishes" people with assets, obviously. But what do they lose with a loss of monetary value which for them really, is excess? In this example the money could be distributed to public services which benefits a lot more people, and might even overlap with some people who themselves would pay into a tax like this. Like I said, i'm not entirely against a sugar tax - but i'd sooner advocate for something that supports people who need something for their day to day living - and not for something which might reduce the luxuries someone can afford. @@leespalding6361
