The idea of the gap is to have keisuke save his tyres during the first run because the FD is more lightweight so its have more advantage during the downhill so that’s why ryosuke wants him to push there. The GTR have a heavy load so when he pushed during the uphill he is abusing those tyres hence why we could see that even during the first race he was already starting to feel the effects of losing grip which differs to keisuke who doesn’t complain even once about losing any grip. Good to have you back buddy!🎉
@alsa4real

When u say 'abuse the tyres', do u mean lose of grip from overheating or from the tyre compound wearing out? Because I don't think road tyres wear out that quickly.
@Boyo_zigzag_allah

@@alsa4real hmmm i can't say for sure.. but the writers did the same kind of situation with the first toudou school race where the EK9 also starting to lose grip in the front because of the FF nature of putting more load on the front. In reality, its true that road tyres don't wear out that quick but i think the writers are trying to replicate a circuit racing scenario where loss of grip due to wear often happens. its's my analysis so CMIIW

@@Boyo_zigzag_allah FF, downhill race. It's gotta be a lose of grip due to tyre temps going above the optimal range.

@alsa4real ngl I feel like the phrase "abuse the tyres" is sort of a blanket phrase to say that they're just wearing down the grip to the contact surface on the tires

@@Boyo_zigzag_allahngl that seems pretty feasible considering how they kinda pushed the story in stage 3 and 4 where they started racing actual driving schools and people who do race in circuits like with the ek9 driver from the todou school I think

God foot tries to occupy himself with the talking and yelling because he over-thinks the situation, when he gets quiet he focus too much that his margin of error becomes so small it gets dangerous. So breaking his concentration once in a while was the best solution.

God's Foot has the priority over Keisuke because God's Foot entered the Pilon first, Keisuke has to give way, its just racing driver courtesy. gonna love the the author for making this scene. that's how I vision this overtake.

You asked, and I shall answer.(Even though 50 other people have probably already answered before me) Your thinking is correct, the reason he left a 7 second gap is because by driving slower he wears his tyres less, which means that he has more grip going back downhill allowing him to make up time where it counts. Another thing: With the 4th generation of the GT-R nissan did a great job at sloving the understeer, so the R34 doesn't actually understeer so bad. It still has a very special 4WD system, which will apply torque to the front wheels when it detects rear tyre slip, except now it's even faster and more advanced. They call Kozo Hoshino the god foot, because despite the attesa system doing everything in it's power to maintain grip, he is still able to manipulate it with his footwork to get the GT-R sliding. And one last thing: You said, ain't no way Takumi's race is topping this. Oh, just you wait :DDDDDDDDD Honestly it may not top it in your eyes, but it'll definitely be way up there. Final couple of words: I can't wait for the next part of this. I am super happy, that you are willing to put all 3 episodes into 1 video and that's why I completely understand why you'd take all the time you need to release the next upload. (Prefferibly not 5 months though) I also wanna say that none of us are mad that you took those 5 months off. I did youtube for a very short period of time and I completely get that you need to take some time off occasionally. Again though, I would really prefer if you didn't make us wait 5 months for the last bit of stage 4. Other than that, great video, love seeing the enthusiasm in your reactions for this series and again, can't wait to see more.

GTR isn't permanent AWD. Let me explain... The AWD system in the Skyline GTRs from the R32 to the R34 were called the ATTESA system, the Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All-Terrain. Now unlike other AWD system where they consistently keeps power to all 4 wheels, the ATTESA doesn't as it passes power from the gearbox to a limited slip central differential and transfer case. That in theory is the same as any other AWD vehicles of that time like the Audi Quattro but unlike the Quattro, the Skyline GTR allows maximum slip before it catches itself. Now if you look back at clips, especially Best Motoring clips, you can see that when they tested the R32, they would force a drift with it and it would work only for the computer system in the car to go "oh, you're slipping, let me help you get back in line gradually" and then straightens itself out. The R33 which succeeds the R32 nulls the RWD bias by quite abit which makes it easier to drive on the ragged edge thus it was slightly faster and quicker during high speed runs and the R34 again revised the ATTESA system when launched that allows RWD bias to be abit higher but then Nissan tuned the computers again to detect slippage way quicker to prevent total loss of control which would happen more than you think in the R32. Thus if you see GTRs being able to slide around corners despite being AWD, it's because they're made to.
@MrLolx2u

And also, the reason why God Foot and God Hands use unorthodox methods to keep concentration is actually rather funny but usable and legit at the same time. If you're too focused on a high intensity sport like racing, adrenaline gets you pumped and at times, you get tunnel visioned about other stuff and that's not all. With that much movement, you might not feel it as adrenaline is still flowing but its wearing your body down as you concentrate more and more thus this is why both God Foot and God Hand chose not to focus too much. God Foot's method is to just be wild and scream words to himself to pace the braking lines and to prevent himself from clamming up and going all too serious which would up his adrenaline levels, cause him to be even more erratic due to the increased tension and then commit more mistakes with his renewed ambition to prove the young Keisuke that he's better thus all the scream and shouts he's doing is to keep his mind blank from the troubles that's chasing him. God Hand on the other hand choosing to race with one hand was the same concept. Like the "Gumtape Deathmatch", driving with one hand off the wheel means that you don't have a full range of motion to turn the wheel thus your radius is smaller or erratic. However, God Hand being God Hand, he was still quick with it but that also means that he's in a relaxed mode due to him only focusing on extending the lead or at least stay infront rather than having to seriously battle Takumi. Once you see him placing his two hands on the wheel, everything changed. The tension got soo high that the adrenaline kicked in with God Hand competing like mad and whilst focusing that much, his body wore down quicker and quicker till it gave way and he nearly collapsed. Adrenaline can cause you to do stupid shit out of just sheer testosterone increase but it's also a double edged sword in that regards that it can help you but also harm you dearly.

Like I just do not know of anyone else who can lure this many emotions out of me, I'm telling you, you're an unmatched personality on youtube. Of course it "helps" that you're reacting to a show equally legendary, but your character is just so entertaining to watch, you could leave for years, it would still worth the wait. Of course I wouldn't be mad if you'd upload like before but like I said, it doesn't really matter, I will be waiting even if it takes several days...., even if it rains to the point I get soaked..., in other words, if you don't come back I'll die here... The 7-second gap was to preserve the tires for the downhill. The GT-R is a heavy ass car so when going downhill, the R34's tires will wear out more than the FD. The 7 seconds-ish is a well calculated gap. Too much gap and Keisuke will have a hard time catching, while a shorter gap means pushing the car harder (because the R34 is far more superior in the uphill in terms of horsepower and torque) wearing his tires faster. 6 seconds was perfect because he preserved his tires for the downhill while maintaining a tolerable gap to be able to catch up downhill.
@snowthemegaabsol6819
@snowthemegaabsol6819 Жыл бұрын
R34s are 4 wheel drive, where the front an rear axels are locked together and engine power is distributed to each wheel evenly. The exact specs of the car aren't ever revealed, but assuming stock, that engine clocks in around 330hp, so each tire is carrying an average of 82.5hp [lower bound]. Keisuke's car can put out about the same total power [5hp more], but being rear wheel drive, the rear tires have to carry 167.5hp each. An uphill battle also naturally puts stress on the rear tires since accelerating shifts the weight of the entire car back. The R34 doesn't have to rely on its rear tires as much for accelerating, and even if 1 wheel starts losing rubber, there are 3 others that can take any extra load rather than just 1, further evening out the tire wear. If this were a battle of pure speed, both cars can run at about the same speed, but Keisuke's rear tires will lose all of their rubber on the uphill portion. Ryosuke therefore takes a gambit, and asks Keisuke to focus not on speed, but on keeping a solid grip to the pavement and limiting his use of the accelerator, both of which are intended to minimize tire wear. But falling too far behind means you wont catch up, and Ryosuke estimates the FD has a 7 second natural advantage on the downhill, so that's as far as Keisuke can fall behind. Then on the downhill, the FD's lower weight and rear wheel drive actually become advantageous. Lower weight helps since the car slows down faster when braking and maneuvers corners more sharply since it has less inertia. Rear wheel drive helps since the front tires only have to take the weight of the car when braking. FF and 4WD cars overuse the front tires on a downhill for both taking the weight of the car and driving it. Nakazato, Seiji, and Daiki all lost against Takumi because of that.

About the 7 second gap: Keisuke plans to preserve tyres on the uphill & go all out on the downhill(cuz racing downhill requires more grip than uphill). Which means he'd have to drive more conservatively(no drifting/sliding & no hard braking/accelerating at all) on the uphill to prevent tyres from hearing up too much, losing useful grip on the downhill. Driving like this will see definitely make you lose time against your rival. Hence why Godfoot was pulling away till the turnaround point. What Ryosuke meant when he said Keisuke can't let the gap widen above 7 seconds is that 7 seconds is the max gap that's allowed if Keisuke wants to catch Godfoot on the downhill. U see this stuff in real life racing all the time. Racing tyres have a very narrow range of temperature where it gives the most grip. And these tyres also wear out quickly. So racing drivers have to drive more careful during most of the race so that they won't be struggling towards the end of the race with no grip.

Basically Keisuke had no choice but to hold back on the uphill since his car has less traction, assuming both have equally skilled drivers and equally matched power, the FD only has two wheels applying power to the road as opposed to 4 wheels on the GTR. More 4 wheels outputting all that power means each tire is working less, less stress and strain. Let's say both cars have 350HP, divide that that by 2 vs by 4. That's 175 per tire for the FD and 70 per tire for GTR. If Keisuke's team was stubborn/ignorant, the FD would have burned through his two tires probably by the time he reaches the turn around at the top or on the way down. He would have been at an even more disadvantage position already since the GTR already has more traction from the beginning. Now you know the FD is lighter and lightweight-ness is one of if not the best weapon on a downhill, remember the Cappucino vs AE86 rain battle? The GTR R34 already weight is more balanced than the R32, still is heavier than the FD and most of that weight is on the front tires on a downhill battle due to gravity. More strain on the front tires than the FD due to weight and don't forget the front tires handle braking, steering and accelerating in the case of a AWD car. In the case of the FD, gravity on the uphill is putting more weight on the rear tires. You gotta give it to Hoshino Ko, by offering a mix of uphill and downhill, they slightly gave a winning chance to the Project D, had this been an uphill battle only, Keisuke would have stood no chance, after all, the GTR is the better car and let's no forget who's the driver: God Foot. If the driver was Nakazato, this would have been a totally different story. When I said "burned his tires", it wasn't literal, I don't work in motorsports, but it most likely means the tires are heating up above its optimal temperature range and losing traction. You can refuel during battle here but not change tires as opposed to Formula 1 where they're racing for about 60 laps. Since they're not taking a break between each round, each round puts more and more stain on the tires, which is why the GTR front tires gave out on the second round and plus it was its second downhill run too. Once again, uphill battle only, R34 would have won. We also have to be thankful Keisuke has learned advanced throttle control. If this was pre-fourth stage Keisuke, most likely he would not have won. To sum up, the presence of downhill in this battle and Keisuke's foot (although not God Foot) are the main two key factors that made the victory possible. Oh and btw Welcome back! We thought something happened to you!

So for the 7-second gap plan - the thing is that the R34 and RX-7 are very different cars. For one, the R34 is WAY heavier, and if I remember correctly the R34 was the heaviest sports car being manufactured in Japan at the time. It has power and traction, and in the uphill where aerodynamics matter less than sheer power, the RX-7 was always going to lose if you have equally talented drivers. On the downhill, the dynamics change, and the weight will hurt the R34 a lot, especially on its tires. In a way, Ko had no choice but to take the offer of going ahead. If this was purely uphill, Keisuke will always lose. So Ryosuke thought to save the tires for the downhill where the RX-7 will shine. If Ryosuke rushed in, he'd have less advantage in the downhill, and, I think that chances are if they started with similar tire wear on the second round, the R34 will have the advantage on the uphill again.

If Keisuke actually did a 7 second gap, he clears God Foot in the first race. He would have had more tread to push on the downhill and attempt an attack before the final corner. 6 seconds meant he had to conserve a bit on his attack. 8 would've been too far to catch up. But good run by Keisuke either way taking it to 50% chance. Top 3 race of the show for sure.
