Silesian dumplings (kluski śląskie) are a completely different thing than pyzy. Silesian dumplings are an addition to meat dishes. The iconic dish is beef roulade with gravy, Silesian dumplings and red cabbage. Beef roulade is wrapped with onion, bacon and cucumber in brine. It wasn't oscypek cheese. You can only eat oscypek in Podhale in spring and summer. It's made from sheep's milk. It was an industrial fake made of cow's milk in this store.🙂

I appreciate that you know that "ruskie pierogi" are not "russian pierogi". :) They are best eaten slightly fried, garnished with caramelized onions and pieces of fried crispy bacon, sipping on red borscht, of course. And if you liked polish doughnuts, try the cake called "makowiec" - poppyseed cake - too

Also you have got to try Zapiekanka, pickled cucumber soup, poppy sweet bun, blueberry bun, white berries, and sour cherries if you find a fruit market. Oh, no. You crossed Silesian dumplings off the list, and you haven't eaten them. We have a lot of types of dumplings/noodles in Poland, which everyone calls 'dumplings' in English, and each one looks and tastes a bit different. Silesian dumplings are a very different kind of dumplings from Pyzy ones you've been eating. We have "pierogi", "uszka" (small pierogi), "pyzy", "knedle", "kluski śląskie", "leniwe pierogi", "kartacze / cepeliny", "kluski lane", "klusi ziemniaczane / kluski szare", "Kopytka" etc. In Warsaw, lovers of vegetarian cuisine have a paradise. I googled a few places where they offer gluten-free dishes, but everywhere you can always tell the waiter that you want gluten-free dishes and I'm sure they'll always cook/offer you something. La Cantina (Nowy Świat Street 64) Vegan Bistro (Krucza Street 23/31) Fit Cake Bistro Niezłe Ziółko Tel Aviv Urban Food Bistro Wege Umami Belvedere restaurant (food is not chip there) Giovanni Rubino Groole Wiesz co Zjesz.restaurant Kontakt Wino&Bistro restaurant Hali Koszyki food court Kago Sushi restaurant Słodki Bez patisserie O Matko z Córką bakery BEZ gluten-free bakery „Dary Natury” herb pump room in "Fabryka Noblina" food court Wege Guru. so the thing about oscypek (the cheese) is firstly you can usally only get the orginal in the polish mountain region and sometimes in stalls durig festivals. It very regional to Podhale. The one in the store is a fake made with cows milk. I would recomend eating it hot off the grill with some cranberry jam. Some traders sell it durign the summer and winter markets in main cities.

Blikle is overhyped IMO, Cukiernia Pawłowicz (aka "pączki z Chmielnej") they visited is one of the best places you can go. There is also "Pracownia Cukiernicza Zagodziński", which consistently ranks #1 every Fat Thursday, but I didn't have a chance to visit them yet.

@@MikrySoft Zagodzinski is overhyped as well, there are always kilometrical lines just to get a paczek on Fat thursday there. They got a lot of popularity thanks to the media. I think in my very very personal opinion that an average paczek in Poland is good almost everywhere, and our average is much better than even the best donut in america. I hope that you agree. 🙂

"Paczki" means parcels, it's no sodifficult to notice the differrence, one "pączek" (pronounced similarly to "poncheck") - you can write it in google and get the pronunciation. Pączki is the plural form and , again the second sound is a nasal "o".

Never eat cheeses such as oscypek bought in a supermarket packed in cellophane. This means that they are a vulgar imitation of this regional cheese, which is certified by the European Union and its name is protected. Oscypek cheese must be eaten fresh in the Polish mountain region - the Tatra Mountains. They are produced naturally by sheepherders high in mountain meadows from sheep's milk. They can be eaten plain, but the taste may be too strong for someone unaccustomed to them (they are very salty and strongly smoked), which is why they are often served warmed and with cranberries. They have already written about Silesian dumplings here in the comments - it is not easy to find them in Warsaw, because it is a very regional dish, but rather as an addition to meat, and necessarily with an appropriate sauce. As for vodka - you drank the mild Żubrówka, which is the so-called "colorful" vodka, served without cooling, often also in a drink with apple juice. Polish traditional vodka - it is pure, chilled or even frozen vodka, which is drunk from a glass in one gulp :) I would be curious about your reactions after such an experience.
@novy1198
@novy1198 6 күн бұрын
I would agree, but nowadays its not even the case in mountains, you must find some really old restaurant or buy those from actually regional people, cause most of the time you will eat same thing like those from supermarkets. From my experience best oscypki were from the people on street, with their small vans selling regional cheeses and similar things, they were not placed on like main centre in zakopane or białka but like 10/20km far away, idk really how to better explain this but thats what i saw

Pierogi actually is double plural. Singular: PIERÓG, plural PIEROGI. No need for an "s" at the end. A lot like canollo/canolli in italian. 2) Beza Pavlova isn't Polish actually. It was invented in New Zealand. Perhaps by a Russian immigrant? Yet it's not our local dish. It was named after a Russian dancer. 3) the way you've said "bitĄ" for whipped cream waffers is just the vowel you use in "pĄczki" 4) pyzy are like 3/4 potatoes and 1/4 potato flour. If you're gluten-free make sure they don't add any regular flour before you order. 5) kluski śląskie = same dough as pyzy, a little bit softer perhaps and no filling 6) oscypek, the mountain goat cheese... you can get it from May to August as sheep are grazing that time of the year, If someone tells you it's mountain goat cheese any different time of the year, it's a scam. A common one. 7) placki ziemniaczane/potato pancakes should be thinner. a lot thinner. they used too much flour and too little potatoes. hence the puffiness. Proper ones would taste pretty much the same, but would be way more crispy. 8) We had a wide variety of apple species. Nowadays, due to huge markets and their business model the variety is deteriorating. Pity. You can still get various apples from local/farmers' markets though. 9) bison grass vodka. not to my liking. usually served with apple juice, but there's a better way to serve it. try pear juice. 10) as for bigos.the hunters' stew, you missed red wine and smoked dried plums it needs to include. 11) ruskie indeed doesn't mean russian. it actually comes from Kievan Rus, which by all means was a viking-founded pre-ukraine sort of a... country? Not yet a country. More like a habitat. 12) you visited central Poland, not eastern Poland. you missed one of the best dishes you can eat here: en.wedlinydomowe.pl/viewtopic.php?t=8423 As for the heaviness of our cuisine. Yes, it tends to be heavy. Poland is not an eden for fruit and veggies. We have harsh winters, so bulb veggies are common for the ease of keeping them from rotting. We used to be a farming/peasant country, hence the taste for high callory meals. You get pretty much the same in any Slavic country. Be it Czechia, Ukraine, Belarus...
