I had the pleasure of running one of these and a steam truck this weekend up in Montreal... now I'm searching for a Fogden steam truck :)

Nice traction engine. Are you going to make a decorative cover for the cylinder like the larger engine? Since the flywheel is solid are you looking a a swirl pattern or painting a star to match the other decorative elements on the engine? looking forward to watching the series.

You wondered why the soldered joints at the bottoms of the barley twist columns had failed. I think the answer is simple. I remember seeing a picture of war damaged showman's equipment from the bombing of the centre of Swansea. It clearly showed the mangled remains of a barley twist column. the centre of which was a steel rod with an outer cast brass barley twist. Yours is solid brass with a short section soft soldered into the bottom fitting. Hardly something capable of taking much in the way of continued atmospheric movement of the canopy over a number of years. It would have been better drilled into & fitted with a length of studding. Preferably the full length through as in the full size engine. Clearly not going to be possible. But for a clever man like you, I feel certain that you will have sorted something sensible out.

I have a quick question. What is a sideboard?

From Google: a flat-topped piece of furniture with cupboards and drawers, used for storing crockery, glasses, and table linen.

Lovely engine! She runs well. I own a 1 inch Minnie Traction Engine but i can't seem to get her to run real slow as in tick over speed without it stopping. Why is this?
@keithappleton Жыл бұрын
I can't tell without having on the Workbench, it could be down to many combination of problems . . . .
@mattseymour8637 Жыл бұрын
@@keithappleton That makes sense. Someone who worked on the engine and set all the valve timing said because it is all set up properly it must be something like the build quality of the engine and that without a complete rebuild will have to live with it. Because of this is it best to live with it and accept that is how the engine is?
