Based on your recommendation I did get the ET-8550 and I love it. Because print cost is so low I print many of my pictures that I would not have seen the light of day.

Keith just want to say I have just got into printing after watching your videos. Bought myself a Canon G650 and having some fun with it. Having something tactile in your hands like a print is like having a good book in your hands rather than reading it on an ipad or viewing it on a computer. It has opened up a new door for me so I am grateful for that. Keep the videos coming they really are superb, the way you describe things is binge watch worthy. 👍👍

Now I'm even more interested in all the content on this channel. I finally ditched ordering prints and got P900. Lovely prints and I'm used to working with color management. The only thing giving me trouble is learning to think how out of gamut colors will come out, especially greens than tend to go out of gamut often with soft proofing. I better re-watch your video about out of gamut colors and check if there are any others I've missed. And of course, test prints, more test prints.
@KeithCooper2 ай бұрын
Thanks! Handling OOG colours is a critical aspect of how profiles do their work ... and another distinct limitation [IMHO] of soft proofing if used incautiously ;-) Pay careful attention to rendering intents - I have an article specifically addressing some of this www.northlight-images.co.uk/a-photo-print-of-some-bright-red-flowers/ [many of my articles pre-date me starting YT videos in mid 2020 - they almost always have more details/info than any video]
@hoggif2 ай бұрын
@@KeithCooper I immediately noted than sometimes soft proofing gives wrong impressions. It is a different media and gamut after all. This is a game changer compared to commercial printed ordered ones. I can print a small test sample and get immediate feedback rather than after a cycle of week or whatever. Faster feedback loop is great for learning. So far I love what I get out already but I know there is still things to learn. Probably a lot of things.

I'm using an Epson R3000 but considering the 8550 to reduce ink costs. My hesitation is based on the longevity of prints as I have prints from my R3000 in a south facing conservatory that are still vibrant after about 8 years.
@KeithCooper2 ай бұрын
That's a harsh environment for any print. I'd be disinclined to turn down the 8550 for just that, when you can easily re-print or make an extra copy and store it in a drawer, ;-)

Hi Keith, Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I'd love to see a comparison with the pro 1100 and the p5370, media handling, quality, inks and prints preference and cost, and of course your recommendations. Once again I truly appreciate your time and knowledge. Thanks Keith Andy

Thanks - I'll definitely do a broad P5300/PRO-1100 comparison video once I've finished the written 1100 review. But... as per my usual [20 years!] review policy there will not be any recommendations! I make those very rarely. It's up to readers/viewers to define and rank their needs and see what matches their needs For example - 'quality' means something different to every single person whoever asks me about it ;-)

Hi Keith. Thanks for this. Might I add that as well as Canon and Epson being better with information, paper manufacturers could be better. I use Canson and Ilford papers on my pro300. Ilford have the media settings incorporated in the file names of the ICC profiles. For Canson, you have to dig.

I try to use different media types to get around changing matt and photo black in my ancient Epson 7880 it's doable but i need more work..ink waste is huge with the normal changing process

Yes, I had one of those - just for gloss/lustre papers, because of the switching

Hey Keith, thanks again for this explanation again. I am a bit struggling with the settings for Velvet and Archival Mat papers. I am printing mostly B&W photos, and in larger, dark erias, i lose details. Same picture printed on photo glossy, there are no problems. I guess it seems to be a "bleeding", "absortion" issue from the inkt into the paper. Maybe you have some advice for me. I am using the Epson P900, and love the deep black and high contrast pictures.

Read my P700/900 B&W article www.northlight-images.co.uk/black-and-white-printing-with-the-p700/ In particular note the coverage of linearity

I make pictures of gold watches that I sell on ebay. thought I would see how they look printed - terrible! hahahaha. ok, I only have a Canon 3270 (I think, a mega tank) but I am guessing gold is tricky even on much better printers? How about on a Canon ImagePro 300?
@KeithCooper2 ай бұрын
A better printer is but a small part... Editing is the key - along with paper choice and optimal profiles. Yes, a tricky subject to print well, but it's 'just' acquiring the necessary photoshop skills ;-)

As ever, an interesting video. Keith, a question for Pro 1100 video, I have seen a comparison of the 1000 and 1100, with the 1100 producing more saturated colours, deeper blacks and possibly an all round more contrasty print which is attributed to the new inks. My question is, can this difference be readily emulated with the Pro 1000? I struggle to justify owning a Pro 1000, so really don't want to be persuaded to upgrade to the Pro 1100, however I am coming to the end of a set of inks……..
@KeithCooper2 ай бұрын
Thanks I've seen that bit of video too - colour me skeptical, until I can replicate such a pronounced difference ;-) I have never seen such an obvious difference between ANY modern good quality printer, yet alone enough to show so clearly on a video... I'll not criticise it any more, since it was a limited bit of testing with a pre-production printer. Let's just say I would not make such claims without some very clear profiling and testing evidence to back it up

Hi Keith, I would like to know if you recommend the inks of Marriott and their papers. Thanks
@KeithCooper2 ай бұрын
I take it you mean 'Marrutt' as opposed to the hotel chain ;-) I've used their papers in the distant past - I never use 3rd party inks though.
@marcopigoni94832 ай бұрын
Yes, @@KeithCooper, sorry for the hotel chain! I'm looking about buying an old Epson R3000 that was the top for black and white professional printing but I'm looking also at some alternatives for the inks because I have very limited budget. And I saw that Marrutt are used also by professional labs
@KeithCooper2 ай бұрын
@@marcopigoni9483 The inks have a good reputation, but the problem with all such inks is that you need all new icc paper profiles. Marrutt are quite good with their support though. Personally, I'd not use a lab that went for 3rd party inks to save money - doesn't signify a commitment to quality IMHO
