In this video, we visit a small mountain town on the state line between Tennessee and Kentucky. It has abandoned buildings, an explosive history, and it's also my original home town.

Tennessee forgets Jellico is even there until taxes are due. My Daughter was born in the hospital there back in the 90's, it was a wonderful little hospital then. Greed and mismanagement has essentially killed it off.

@@Keithdotson You're Welcome, it was very enjoyable. Reminds me of my hometown. I've lived and traveled across America, but made it full circle back home. Living just a little outside of town in the woods, exactly where I like it. Blessings from Georgia 🪶✨ Have a great Labor Day weekend.

My grandfather was from the Smith family , one of the original families in Jellico. My dad grew up there and my brother and I visited regularly for our entire childhood. It was a wonderful place back then in the 60’s. My grandparents had a beautiful home on fifth street that has disappeared , I’m assuming it must have burned down. I would love to know for sure . My grandfather was president of one of the banks there . I’m so sad to see how it has been destroyed now , I haven’t been in 40 years and I think I would be so sad to go visit now. Thank you for video.

Evocative photos of a town personal to you. Lovely that you can get an oral history from your family. Thanks for sharing. Love the dog and the collections at the end!

Lovely town. Wonderful history. Thank you for sharing. Videos like this allow me to visit places I would not be able to travel to. America’s is so incredibly interesting.

Hi, Keith. I responded to your last video, but my response disappeared again, But I really enjoyed watching it. Especially where those old tools hung on the wall are beautiful, I would like to spend some time there. Your photos are, as usual, very beautiful. And the more I watch your videos the more interested I become in them. It's a shame that these types of abandoned buildings cannot be found. We are too small a country for that. Thank you for this video. Say hello to Teena for me. Kind Dutch greetings, Antoine

The 4 abandonded buildings next to the Catholic sign...and the street up the hill next to those buildings are in Kentucky. Taxes and difference in laws make state line towns interesting. I'd say legally Jellico can't do much to condemn the buildings without help from Whitley County, Ky.

Bucks Jellico Hardware looks like my kind of store. I just love the old style hardware stores and it appeared to still be operating. Amazing they are still in business with competition from all the mega-chains.

Maybe they have the advantage of nearly no competition from big stores in the vicinity.

Yes we have pretty bad buildings in town as you have shown wish you would have filmed more of the beautiful homes we have in this town and shown how around noon time it is very busy this town lived off coal money for many years it’s not happening now for sure but I will say one great place to live and it’s starting to grow some now getting grants to fix buildings town is in better financial shape than it’s been for years hospital is reopening so there’s little update on jellico

Would you happen to know what happened to the house at 211 fifth street ? It was my grandparents home and it’s gone now , I’m wondering if it burned down. It was a beautiful brick craftsman .

Homeless persons tent behind the ruins? And was that a radio flyer wagon on the porch? Oh and BTW as much as i can't stand powerlines as I mentioned in a previous video, my favourite image in this was the ruins with its chaotic(not really) mess of powerlines 😂
@Keithdotson
@Keithdotson Жыл бұрын
You are very observant to notice that tent. Presumably someone is living there and that's why we didn't go any further back there. Yes on the wagon -- and I agree with you 100% about power lines -- they are my nemesis. But sometimes they do contribute something to the composition.
