Keith, I think the lime has a low thermal heat transfer which allows the slow cooling, something the old timers figured out, and it keeps oxygen away from the hot steel, limiting the scale build up. The one thing I always find with my electric heat treat furnace is scale build up. To where you wrap in a stainless foil with some small piece of wood match to consume the oxygen, or a no scale coating you brush on, that sorta works.

Sehr interessant, dass Keith zu Beginn des Videos diese Art von Gebet spricht, es ist wohl eine Hymne auf die USA, ihre Verfassung und ihre spirituelle Ausrichtung. I went through a shop move and 3-phase power upgrade last summer. I wasn't happy when the power company said it could take up to 3 months to do the change over with the countdown starting after I signed the contract and paid in full. However, they ended up only taking about 3 weeks, so it wan't too bad. Your power company seems to be taking its time. Maybe Covid-19? It seems to slow everything down. Good luck. Ken
@Paddington604 жыл бұрын
That is so strange at about 10min 50sec! The chuck is going one way, then the long spline backwards, then the shaft is in agreement with the chuck and the spline being machined is going backwards again! Neat how the diameters and frame rate lead to an optical confusion.

It's great seeing you up and running again. I'm already liking the new shop. At the end of the video, I was wondering to myself what rod you were going to use for that buildup. A couple seconds later you answered that. I'll be interested to see how that goes. Is that Buffy behind you in primer red? Like some others, I have also used vermiculite for that sort of thing. It's popular among blacksmiths. But that hydrated lime looks like it may be an even better option. I'll have to try that. Just another little tip from the hard-earned experience of the old-timers.

great to have you back,you were missed. the new shop looks good. it should be interesting to see how that new rod works out. would there be any advantage to turning the shaft down to a nominal size and make or buy a gear to install on the shaft using a key or press fit?
