On today's episode, I am sharing my first impressions about a Keithley DMM6500 multimeter.
In short: it's gorgeous ! But why, and how ? Let's see !
This is not a paid product review and I have purchased this instrument.

Thank you so much for this video! I am a beginner when it comes to electrical systems like this and I am wondering if you could do a demonstration of how to generate IV curves for a material. Does this multimeter have the capability to export data?

can you mirror the DMM6500 display onto a monitor by simply using a USB to HDMI adaptor ?

Does this multimeter reset calibration if the battery runs out? (CR 2032?) Is this really true??? And will it need to be carried to a special laboratory for accurate calibration? Is it somehow possible to calibrate this device without a lab? Is it possible to somehow enter data (calibrate) the wires (probes)? (Let's say I bought other wires and want to account for the capacitance/resistance etc of the new wires)

Thank you for this video! I've been looking for more information on this multimeter for months but aside from the signal path's video on the data acquisition version of this instrument it's very hard to find anything at all. I can't understand why. The specs are far superior to the agilent one and the features and analysis tools of this keithley are just incredible. Still, nobody talks about it but you can find plenty of videos and informations on agilent multimeters...

Happy it helped ! For some reason, from my experience, Agilent meters are more common, including in schools and companies. So there are more on the used market too, and hobbyists rarely purchase new equipment. In addition, people tend to stick with what they have been trained with. So that could explain your observation. I really think this meter is groundbreaking. The graphing capabilities are super useful. I wish Keithley made them look and feel a bit more like a mini oscilloscope. If you have specific questions I'd be happy to answer if I can, or even do a follow up video if there are enough material to cover. I'm still super happy with the DMM6500 and I used it quite a bit of time for different projects already. A solid purchase !

@@the_bootloader If you want and you have the time, you could do a video on the double measurements features. It's a very important aspect nobody talks about. For prototyping, having two different values measured on the same instrument is extremely useful. Other than what measurement this instrument can perform at the same time, I'm interested in another particular aspect. In a video I watched, while performing both voltage and current measurement at the same time, the internal relays would click very quickly back and forth to switch from voltage to current measurement and vice versa. This obviously is not good in the long run because the relays wear out. However the video mentioned, without showing it, that if voltage and current had the same or similar ranges, no relay would click to switch measurement, so you could leave it measuring for days without worrying about wearing the relays out. It would be extremely useful for me if you could confirm this fact, maybe showing which measurements and renges (expecially for current and voltage) don't require the relays clicking. This is a fundamental feature for long term datalogging. In any case, thanks again for the little review!

@@Maltanx Thanks for the suggestion. To be honest I tried to setup the instrument so that I could get double measurements without having the relays clicking, but I was not able to do it. Which is why I released the video without mentioning the feature. I will give it a second try !

Sorry for the noob question but why doesn't this meter have the 10A jack on the front? That would be a deal-breaker for me... the other (high-end) DMMs have the jack in front..?

That's actually a very good question ! I never realized this limitation, because I don't frequently use the meter for higher currents above 3A. Thanks for pointing it out !

To me, it looked like the readings jumped whenever you put your hand near the unit. In your presentation I believe you ssid it wasn't affected by your hand. Any comment?

I am not sure what you are referring to. When doing high impedance voltage measurements, noise will couple from anything nearby (including hands) into the unit, which will affect the readings. This is harmless however and does not affect the performance of the unit when connected to an actual voltage source. Is this what you are referring to ? Let me know :)

Salut, je regarde ce multimètre et j'ai le gout de me lancer. L'aimes tu toujours ? De plus j'ai vraiment du mal avec le bruit des fans. A quel point est-il silencieux ? Merci :)
@the_bootloader
@the_bootloader 2 жыл бұрын
[english below] Bonjour ! Hi ! It is relativelemt silent, a tad noisier than a desktop computer. It is way less noisy than my power supplies for instance. It's still an instrument with active ventilation but I don't find it excessive. As far asn I am concerned I don't find it disturbing.
