Love your analysis of his play, I agree with virtually all of your takes. I understand making adjustments to how positions are played in accordance to play style changes in the NBA as a whole but I don’t understand this fixation coaches have with turning their big men into these swiss army knife type of players. It seems like they teach big me how to play like a guard first (playmake, facility, handles) and a big man second which in turn has made all these up and coming big men EXTREMELY soft in regards to being physical as a 5. A 5’s mentality should be “this is MY paint, no one is scoring in here and no one is going to stop me from scoring in here”. Pisses me of seeing a 7 ft 230+ lb dude flopping, falling, and flailing when they are guarded by someone smaller than them. Anyone under 6’7 should NEVER stop you

He seems more like a very tall forward than a center. Won't be surprised if the heat take that route with him. Seems like he could develop a good mid range shot. Smooth touch

On defense call him the center because he is 7'. On offense if his jump shot is better than Bam he is probably spending less time in the paint.

The lack of physicality is a concern especially with his lack of a motor on the court. I have a hard time seing him panning out. He's going to have to bring more energy in NBA.
@FloorandCeiling
@FloorandCeiling Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. On one hand, it's tough to disagree with his 73% at the rim and 70% at the rim in just the half-court. But like I mentioned in the video, I totally agree. In college, Ware was big, athletic, and skilled enough to overcome his lack of aggression. It's sort of basic, but it really does sort of boil down to wanting him to play harder. If he buys in and revs up, then he has a very solid chance of being a two-way presence at the rim who can also add some shooting.

Another great breakdown. I've heard a lot of comps to to Christian Wood, but I don't know if I agree. Who'd be your comp for Ware? Also, if you're Memphis and Clingan isn't there at #9, do you trade down for Ware?
@FloorandCeiling
@FloorandCeiling Ай бұрын
Appreciate it! I think an aggressive, lob catching version of Christian Wood kinda makes sense - I do see it - but I also think a more zoned-in Jaxson Hayes (another recent Lakers big) would fit as a comp. If I'm Memphis and Clingan isn't there at #9, which I don't think he will be anymore, I think I'd just pick whichever wing is available and I like the most. If the Grizzlies keep the 39th pick, there can be some interesting centers there like Oso Ighodaro, Izan Almansa, Ariel Hukporti, or maybe even Adem Bona who don't have super high-end outcomes but can be made better by Ja Morant and develop quickly into a valuable role.

@@FloorandCeiling don't forget about Mogbo! lol
@FloorandCeiling
@FloorandCeiling Ай бұрын
@@GrandmastaL I like Mogbo in the mid-late second, but I see him as more of a wing in the NBA (especially after he played as such at the draft combine, which makes me think that teams also see him there). Still, it wouldn't shock me if the Grizzlies viewed him in the David Roddy mold or like a smaller Xavier Tillman.
@na_k

@@FloorandCeilingYeah, I think this is the way to go. I'd be pleased with Castle, Holland, or Knecht at #9 and Bona at #39. Then acquiring a C in free agency.

Im thinking Ware is gonna be the steal of the draft. Hes super long, great rebounder, solid scorer, great hands, finishes strong, can likely turn into a consistent shooter, pnr, got 2nd in the shuttle run, switchable and explosive, 3rd in standing vertical leap, 2nd in lane agility 👀👀

He kind of reminds me of Brook Lopez. He’s not as heavy as Brook but he’s a better athlete at the same height with similar strengths and weaknesses. He could make sense with the Bucks as a succession plan to Brook.

Thanks for watching! Yeah, I'm with you. There's some Brook to his game, but only very slightly because I'm not sure how much Kel'el is truly gonna shoot early on. I think he'd be fine for the Bucks as a backup big option, though I wonder if Milwaukee might continue targeting wings until one of them finally produces at a decent level.

Ware might be gone by #22, but it's not a surefire thing at all. If he's there, the Suns should look to draft him and mold him like Dereck Lively so that they can get some rookie year minutes from Ware. Surrounded by KD, Beal, and Devin Booker, all he'd have to do is catch and finish.

How would he fit in LA with AD and Wood?
@FloorandCeiling
@FloorandCeiling 21 күн бұрын
I feel like Christian Wood shouldn't be a part of the Lakers' plans going forward (and most other teams tbh), so focusing on AD, I don't love the fit. I also don't like it with LeBron, who I still consider the Lakers' most important piece, that much. Ware next to AD kinda makes more sense in theory than in practice, since I doubt Ware is gonna be making 40% of his threes on high volume. For his first 2-3 seasons, I'd be surprised if he took more than 1 or 2 triples a game. Then, the skillset just kinda becomes redundant and I don't think he'd be a steady backup center for a team with the Lakers' hopes. I like Kyle Filipowski and DaRon Holmes II much more as frontcourt options for the Lakers. They're still athletic and tall - although in different ways - but can make reads out of the short roll, play with their head up, and also shoot the three in a more projectable manner imo.

Like I mentioned in the video, I think Ware's shot is a bit overstated right now. He might eventually shoot more, but I also think it's a very real possibility that he doesn't shoot. Deandre Ayton or Dereck Lively shot way more at previous levels and don't do so anymore.

Ware has the tools and he had production at the college level, but I have questions about how quickly it'll take for him to be impactful in the NBA because he'll need to make a lot of improvements. The part from 10:40 until 14:08 should cover everything.

I've always been pretty low on Wiseman, but I like Ware much more. A few things that stand out to me: Wiseman had a tendency to settle for elbow jumpers that killed the flow of the offense, whereas I don't think Ware necessarily settles. Only about 18% of his shots were jumpers at Indiana. It's just that he doesn't make them as much as it's made out to be. Wiseman also demanded a lot of touches with his back to the basket, but never proved his decision making was quick or sharp enough to warrant those reps. Ware is gonna cut down on his post-ups in the NBA, but he was efficient in college, able to handle double teams, rip through them to score, or kick the ball out to distribute. Finally, and I think we've seen this in the NBA, Wiseman never had a clear role as a pro. Ware does, even if he still needs to get better at all the nuances. He struggled at Oregon as a freshman, but he deserves credit as a sophomore for buying into doing what a big needs to do to be effective and efficient.

He does not seem to me to be an interesting player. His only virtues are alley oops on offense and blocks on defense. And nothing else. His 3's shooting percentage this season seems to me more a product of chance than of being a good shooter; and he is neither a good passer, nor a good defender and he lacks physicality. He's really a 7-footer with a good wingspan, but he doesn't know how to play good basketball. In a couple of years I see him playing in the Japanese league.
