Our German Shorthaired Pointer Charmin trained my dad how to hunt… smartest, sweetest, best dog EVER. My mom had started a Christmas Club savings account however had to empty it out to pay for a complete mastectomy and hysterectomy on Charmin when we discovered she had cancer. For two weeks after she came home she laid on my parents waterbed watching soaps while she healed…

Hi Daniel,Houston hey wanted to tell you something for the safety of Kelsie. I was a dog trainer and dog behaviorist for 40 years and I don’t know if you were told this or not but please do t leave the choker on Kelsie if she isn’t being watched. She can get it caught on something and hang herself trying to get loose. I was at a dog show and someone had a choker on a show dog and he got his choker caught on a hook on the crate and he choked and almost died. And one other thing that is if you what to know😆🤣 tell her off when she jumps on you or is on the furniture and you want her to get down tell her down to lay down that’s it. The guy did good work. I loved training dogs for people and did a lot in 40 years. Keep working her everyday she will be amazing. And it will be natural for her and you all too. Bye👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻

A good portion of "dog training", is human training. Speaking from experience myself with training, in the long-term it is SO wonderful having a dog that behaves, that ALSO is a family animal. Congratulations on Kelce training, I hope the family is doing well and your city is recovering.

Houston , Kelcye and you need to become a bonded pair. I have seen this Bond develop and it is amazing. Learn the signals from Kelcye and Kelcye will learn yours. It's the most amazing language. Others in the family can and should take a step away. You must be the no. 1. It's a lot of love and responsibility. You must have Kelcye 's back when she messes up. You will have to clean it up. Don't worry, it's not the end of the world. You can do this. Good luck.

I grew up with a GSP. They are loving, intelligent dogs who love their family. Hector would consistently be up to no good unless he was occupied. All our round doorknobs became oval lol, there was no keeping him indoors when he didn't want to be there. Top notch Bird dogs with hearts of gold.

You picked a winner. Now its up to you to maintain the training and reinforce the good and correct the bad. It only took a few weeks to get her there but the next six weeks of consistent reinforcement will be the deciding factor of her ability to give you the dog you want and the dog you get. I believe she will set a new standard for the other dogs and how you work w them.

I have a Belgian Malinois and an all-black (rare coloring) German Shorthaired pointer, two high drive breeds that are easy to work with in a training capacity, we train two to four times a day in short 15-minute sessions which end in the dog's success. Training is fun and enriching for them and they will enjoy it throughout their entire lives.Your trainer is what is known as a 'balanced trainer' they will use the best training method and training tools that are best for your dog, he knows his dog training. There are also these purely positive fanatics out there now who don't believe in telling a dog 'NO!' nor will they use electronic collars or other aids deemed aversive to give a dog fair and clear guidance and corrections even if it means saving the dog life. This robot comment is usually from people whose dogs could use some training and don't understand what dog training is. Good Luck Housten!!

Sure miss my German Shorthair named Blue. I didn't have the money to send him to dog training school, and it took me 10 years to get him to finally calm down enough to be able to walk him on a leash without him dragging me all over the place. But before he left this world at the old age of 17 years old, he was the calmest pet I've ever had. I would lay down and he'd curl up beside me and lay his chin on my leg. Even at the age of 17, NOBODY would mess with me if he was there. It was a trust and love between us that couldn't have been broke. Absolute Great breed of Dog.

Boy Huston sure is growing up and maturing. He’s always been one of those kids that could hang out with the adults but I’ve just really noticed lately how he’s been changing from the little boy into a young man. He’s lost any of the chubby-ness to his cheeks, shot up taller and just really grown into himself. He’s polite, easy to be around and most of all he’s kind. How proud you must be of him. Not that my thoughts matter much, just thought I’d share. Blessings ❤😊

My Dad used to field train Weimaraners. His partners (dogs) were all Champions. He spent hours with each one. They were not pets. At the age of a 5 year old. I felt some sadness that I wasn't allowed to treat them as pets. I do remember my Mom talking to our neighbor. My Mom always said, " I never have to worry about myself (Deanna) wondering into the street our out of our yard. Because Tuck (nickname) would always put himself between danger and littery stood horizon to me, while ever so gently guiding me back to our huge backyard. We had a huge yard on a corner lot. Yet my Momma knew if Tuck was out, I would always be safe. My Dad hunted birds with his partner. I was usually always invited to go hunting. The only time I wasn't invited to go along was if he was working another persons dog. Which meant the dog had bad habits. Both my parents are in their forever home with God. Yet as I'm trying to acknowledge the brilliance of Hustons new partner. I'm crying, I weep not for my parents. I'll see them again. I'm weeping as a 60 year old female. Understanding the bond that You & Your wife are investing in the future of a truly GOD FILLED SPIRIT. 🙏

Your cats are adorable. I have a soft spot for black cats. Obedience training is the best thing to do for a puppy, especially a rambunctious one like Kelce. She definitely knows that she is Houston’s dog. I have a friend whose seeing eye dog is like any other pet until his harness is put on him. The dog literally snaps to attention and then becomes a highly trained assistance dog.

The 3 word command: Here, Heel, Sit in that order. You will be saying it a lot! :) Having a well mannered dog is just as important for it's safety as it is to have a well behaved pup in the family unit. The 2 biggest commands are SIT! to stop them from getting into trouble (or hit by something) and HERE! for recall! good job guys! Keep practicing Houston! Soon it will start coming naturally to you!

Kelse should always be on your left side. She needs to sit on her command side (left). It's not robot mode it's called respect for you and the command you ask of her. She's great and will always have respect for you being her leader! The best of luck and have fun.....❤

I loved it when Houston said a dog was from Cleveland, Ohio. I now live in Colorado, but I am from a suburb of Cleveland.
