her whole Take Me Apart album is basically the daughter to Janet Jackson's Velvet Rope album. Take Me Apart came out October 2017, Janet's Velvet Rope album came out 1997. Both are experimental in terms of productions, and mix in elements from other genres (electronica, UK garage/house music)... but have Rnb at the core!! Kelela said "Janet is mom". So she acknowledges that some of her songs/style is influenced by Janet Jackson. The production of this song reminds me of one of Janet's albums off that album. Even the orange lighting on the cover... both Kelela and Janet had orange-red color scheme. Legit if Janet ever acknowledges Kelz I will scream lol. And I'm sure Kelela would cry. She so sweet and vulnerable and honest in her lyrics and they way she sings!! I need to Kelela to be apart of some Janet tribute or if they collab on a song uggh. They song makes me want to dance in a rainforest or go to the west indies and dance in the summer rain. It's such a tropical/electronica/house UK garage music bop!!
