Currently 2021 and I STILL listen to this several times a month. It kinda irks me that many people only know her as the “milkshake singer.” Her discography, while not super lengthy, is full of hidden gems. This album itself is amazing- the story of a single mother finding strength and liberty. It makes me emotional just thinking about it.

One of my favorite articles I read about the album said that "It's A Love Letter To Her Child" & I really respected that. Even though Kalise herself said, at the time, that she still felt like there was a battle or junction between "pop"/dance music & hip-hop & she felt like she betrayed hip-hop on this album & because of that, as Great As This Album Is💚✅😊❤️💟 what she said just outted her as a Poser of EDM. & Her album artwork is great but it is still clearly Grace Jones inspired (and that's putting it nicely). Still love the music & story that it tells. I love this whole album though!!!

Even Kaleidoscope was brilliant, she picked an unknown producing team called The Neptunes and soon after that in tandem with Missy and Tim it became known as 'The VA Sound.' At the time it was ground-breaking. She's always been far more successful in the UK throughout her career anyway. Go where you're appreciated, I say.

Kelis is a frequency I intrinsically vibe on. This album was widely underrated, much the way she is as an artist, but she gave me life then when it dropped and it still inspires and reinvigorates me. I’m mixed race black, British, Irish, Portuguese, Chinese, and el Salvadoran... my sister is the same but not black her dad is Mexican, and she is darker than me! My skin can get very pale if I don’t get sunlight, but I tan easily and my skin color has a hole HUE of shades depending on current lighting(natural, electric, candle light, then you have a hole spectrum of light waves and undertones -warm vs cool)... basically my point is light and color and skin tone and genetics and life is weird and not set with any absolute... color and light reflect and deflect and scatter and a persons skin-tone and beauty can appear different in one second depending on lighting and angle and perspective, etc...

I love Miley and Kelis. Even though Miley claims the "Wrecking Ball" music video was mainly inspired by Sinead O'Conner, I believe it was also inspired by this video too. Hello! The hair, the white backdrop, the closeup on her face!! Also, at the Bangerz tour, she had a black/white video playing during a set-switch and she had the same weird eyelashes that Kelis had in Scream. Kelis is so unique and inspiring. Trail blazer. Even though she's not huge and never has been huge, except for one song, she has had a huge impact on the music industry.
