Because Mariah she used classic singer technique (pull chest belt) to go high key even with her r&b song too. But nowaday other singer can go high and higher with mix belt, So that when they sing her song we can hear some different.

I love Kelly but she can't do justice with Mariah's songs in the 90s as these songs were crafted only to be sung by Mariah herself. Maybe she can do justice with Hero if she will sing it the way Mariah sang that song in the early 2000s-present. But the 1993 and most importantly 1996 ver, nope.

I remember when she first did this all those years ago right after Idol. I think that was one of her very 1st concerts right after Idol and her voice was totally shot due to overuse a d exhaustion. Even so, she pulled it off. Now, almost 2 decades later, she sang it again, and MUCH much better than the 1st time. I actually thought she was going to go for that whistle note haha, but it was still awesome.

Kelly tends to avoid whistle notes even though she actually can do it. Ariana would have been able to pull off the whistle notes effortlessly for sure but I actually love the heavier tone of Kelly. Mariah's voice is unique in that while she does have that breathy, whispery quality in her falsetto like Ariana, she actually has a lower and fuller chest voice like Kelly (especially in her earlier years). Ariana has a naturally thinner and higher tone even when she sings in her chest register.
